Anyone noticed about 6 times they put the "date"of the fight top left of screen as april 19th 1998 , a whole decade out, it was 1988 you fools ,they were long done by 98

ESPN bought the rights to a bunch of old fights and then recorded new commentary for their broadcasts. It drives me crazy as you can clearly tell they weren't actually their calling the bout.

You really kinda got the feeling that this time Mark Breland was going to regain his WBA Strap back from Starling in this second fight. The press were fancying Mark to do it ! this fight wasn't as taxing for both fighters like it was in there 1st fight but Starling won this fight too. It wasn't a draw. It was close but Moochie won.

@@subtomeyallhelpme8848 The telling sign was Lou Duva who was Breland's manager/trainer smiled after the decision was announced. If he thought that his fighter got robbed with the decision he wouldn't have smiled, it was more like he was happy and relieved that it was scored a draw.

I agreed with the 116-113 for Starling. He clearly outworked him the first half of the fight. The last few rounds were close but Starling should have gotten the decision.

Mark Breland career was rushed.. They wanted their money worth..
@dondajulah4168
@dondajulah4168 2 жыл бұрын
No, he wasnt any more rushed than Sugar Ray Leonard or Oscar DeLaHoya, to name two former Olympic gold medalists. He just was not that good. At the same age Breland was losing his title to Starling, SRL was beating Wilfredo Benetiz (who was actually younger than SRL at the time) and DeLaHoya was taking the title from JCC. Another former guy from the '84 Olympic team was beating Dwight Muhammed Qawi for the cruiserweight title that Breland was losing his belt to Starling. Also, Sweet Pea lost his first shot at the title in his 15th pro fight but he was able to make a pretty damn good career out of it. I guess you will tell me next that Tyrell Biggs was "rushed" too.
@chiefdonreed6353
@chiefdonreed6353 2 жыл бұрын
@@dondajulah4168 That's your opinion I been in those gyms in New York he was rushed. What they do to SRL and what they do with Mark is 2 different things. Mark had money before pro boxing so he was no focused on boxing alone. It had nothing to do with his talent he just focused on other things and not solely boxing like most great fighters with gold medals do.
@dondajulah4168
@dondajulah4168 2 жыл бұрын
@@chiefdonreed6353 I cannot see how it is possible for even someone blessed with all the attributes necessary to become a champion can attain that level without being completely focused on boxing. You say he was not focused on boxing so has nothing to do with "being rushed". Marvin Hagler would have loved if someone had "rushed" him at 23 years old. And lets not even go to just about every single Latin American fighter in the history of boxing, many of whom were fully polished well before 23. OK to admit that Breland didnt have the mental focus necessary to become a great fighter as you seem to have done this already in your comment.

Breland ran too much and held too much. Starling was trying to mix it up but Breland didn't want to fight. A draw was actually a proper decision. The judges got it right for once.
@markdunham9949
@markdunham9949 4 жыл бұрын
on paper, Breland looks awesome but once you see him, skinny little legs, no arms or shoulders, no upper body but a long protruding neck and catches shots to the face flush. With his long amateur career, I thought he'd be better than this. In fact, he had no durability at all! In his first fight with Starling, kept falling and looked extremely fragile, wilting if he got the least bit roughed up

Starling was one of the most under appreciated fighters of his era. He fought everyone and was never an easy fight. Breland was good, but his handlers accelerated his development and should have exercised more caution bringing him up.

@@rickstalentedtongue910 Agreed. Starling was tossing Breland around like a rag doll while Breland was clearly backing up the entire fight and only landing with extremely weak shots. Would be criminal to take the belt off a guy that was manhandling his opponent like that for 12 rounds and was the only one to land serious power shots.
