Breland was the only one in wilder's corner that was concerned with or really cared about the fighter. Wilder was gone, it is very, very unlikely that he still had that killer right hand. He was exhausted, disoriented, his balance was gone. It is very likely that if the fight had not been stopped when it was, that Wilder would have gotten permanent injuries. That stuff ends careers and changes a person's life. Fury does NOT have pillow hand punches, he was hurting Wilder and the best Wilder could do was take more punishment. Now, he will fight another day, unless this loss ruins him mentally. Sometimes, when a guy is unbeaten for a long time, his first real loss will break something inside him, like it did with Naseem "Prince" Hamed, of a few years ago. I expect he will fight on another day but without that stoppage, his other days might have been over, as far as boxing is concerned.

Yeah I agree with you I was saying that they had to stop the fight or else wilder was going to get killed but then I got the time I thought I get a ruptured eardrum some fighter are built take punishment and they take punishment and every fight but deontay Wilder hasn't been shown to take punishment tyson f***** him up
@macnutz4206
@macnutz4206 4 жыл бұрын
@@moves3297 Sadly, the ruptured eardrum was not all of the problem. There is some damage to the inner ear that may require surgery. The inner ear damage is why his balance was gone. It is not super serious surgery but it is necessary and it indicates that taking more damage on that side of the head could have done some serious damage to the inner ear. i agree with you that Wilder is not a tough fighter. Some fighters do take a lot of damage and keep ticking. Deontay is not one of them. Like the Japanese Zero fighter, he hits very hard but can't take much damage before something breaks. But damn, the man hits like a tank.
@macnutz4206
@macnutz4206 4 жыл бұрын
@@flexjohnson18 Yes, forty pounds. Almost half the weight a US soldier carries into combat. Walks for miles through rugged terrain with and often fights with it on his back. Wilder had several fitting sessions and knew well ahead of time what it weighed. A smarter man would have insisted on lightening the thing. It did not get dumped on him at the last minute. He could have skipped the dumb costume all together and the fight would have been exactly the same. It was that bight right to the ear that stole his legs, not the costume. His legs were gone after the first knock down.

But all of his team should’ve told him you don’t want to wear that before you get in the ring. Especially if it really was going to have that much of an impact on his legs 😂 i swear he said he trains with a a 45lbs vest? I dont think the most experienced trainer in his corner should he fired. @mattjean2652 4 жыл бұрын
I want to correct my comment Apparently my memory betrayed me. Breland was not taking a beating like I thought I remembered. Davis was getting the beating and came back with a big punch to win by ko. I dont want to lead people to believe his corner dropped the ball on the stoppage. The punch that ko'd him came out of no where...the corner had nothing to do with it. I apologize for making it sound like the corner should have stopped it. The punch was the result of an incredible comeback by Davis. The corner could not have seen it coming. Again I apologize to Breland's corner. But Breland did the right thing for Wilder.

I’ve had issues with Atlas since he spoke about mike Tyson not being a true champion, or having the heart of one - but this is something that’s made me see that sometimes opinions like that don’t make someone entirely wrong. I agree with Teddy here and it’s nice to see that he still has this type of mentality.

Two things: 1-This guy does an excellent job of supplementing Teddy’s commentary. Good job Ken! 2- I can understand Wilder saying those things. It was the right call for sure, but he’s a fighter and that is expected from a warrior. Sometimes they have to be saved from themselves. Plus, there is a public image to maintain. I do not condone the other trainer agreeing with Wilder though; especially not to the public. Bad move from a good coach.

Off topic but it's alright. Teddy is one of my hero's. I always knew his name and recognized his voice but hadn't known his story before the Joe Rogan podcast. Still to this day I think that podcast is one of my favorite of all time. Every second is so entertaining to me, from the early days of boxing and to Teddy's family stories. There's something so inspiring about the street kid who made it some how. I could listen to Teddy talk about life at any time of my day and I'm left feeling better in some fashion. All of his quotes go way beyond boxing and can just be applied to life, and I feel every second of them. "Sometime's you gotta fight with a bloody nose" apply it to life, it still works. Thank you for being you Teddy.

Mark Breland won twice. Lost belt to Marlon Starling then drew with Marlon Starling then went on to take back belt after Starling vacated. He fought an Asian who he knocked out in first round if I remember correctly.

This is the opinion that matters the most to me in the world. If Mr. Atlas says it should be thrown then no one should question it not even Wilder. Making excuses are making this whole thing look worse.

A dre Ward said it best. It was the best business related move in the end. A brutal KO would have devastated the rematch coming. At least creating a controversy will create a reason for more fans to pay more attention to the next bout. Wilder was blessed by the stoppage

Anyone who thinks Breland didn't do the right thing needs to study the circumstances behind this tragic fight kzbin.info/www/bejne/o6XEp3mvdpdna9k Patrick's corner wanted to stop the fight but Patrick insisted he was ok. Now one young kid is dead and several families are torn apart. Mark, thanks for letting Wilder come back another day. Only a fellow warrior like you can understand what went on that night inside Wilder's mind and body.

I believe the referee was about to stop the fight anyway. I watched the referee paying very close attention to Wilder's reaction to punches in an earlier round. Great decision by the coach. Wilder can recover from this and live to enjoy his boxing and his health in years to come. As Fury said, thank you for being a great dancing partner....thank you for being part of a great fight.

Ward also expressed a good idea. If Wilder was sparked out in the later rounds, then his whole image would be badly damaged, even potentially derailing the 3rd fight. So the trainer actually helped Wilders career

Breland made the right call. Perhaps he could have stopped it sooner. The ref was being protective of Wilder throughout the fight. I felt the ref should have stopped it before Breland did in all honesty. It was a good fight. Mad respect for Wilder on the beating he took and still wanting to go out on his shield.
