MarloweDK - Bass lessons, licks and low notes

Күн бұрын

First talking movie from MarloweDK, presenting my basses in a high squaky voice. Honoring the danish term "Valbyengelsk".
Go to playbassnow.com for more FREE grooves, fills & basslines.
Theres a bass version of the Korg Pandora on the market too, the PX4B (havent tried it), but the version PX4D I have is a combined guitar/bass effects and the newsest on the market.

I am a great fan of Marlowe DK myself, I think he is a brilliant bass player and no one including myself would presume to lecture this guy about basses. I have a few myself and being a funk, jazz electric and upright player rate him very highly. Thanks for imparting your knowledge to us is like being at music school all over again.

I completely agree with you on the string distance between the 6 and standard 4 strings making the two basses very different to play. It's kind of neat on the 6 being able to harmonize so many pretty chords between the D-G-C strings.

@parristar . Often times yes, it the preamp has a hot enough output you can plug headphones right into it, but it isn't a very loud signal. But if they are stereo phones you will only hear in one side. Just remember to unplug so you kill the battery.

Hello Marlowe! I own and play on the same Marcus Miller (Olympic white) jazz bass - very playable bass - but replaced the preamp: Aguilar OBP-2 band. Sounds very cool nice warm and punchy sound. It's more close to a vintage sound. I love your playing and music choice (especially George Duke's funk period). Dennis Hitijahubessy, bassplayer from the Netherlands

-to thewhitestkidyouknow You are probably talking about a Warwick bass. It doesn't have a paint or oilbased finish (well you can get it with that) but instead it has a wax finish. The bass only needs new wax when you want it to shine or have worn some of the wax off (wax on - wax off, sry coulnd't help it). I'm pretty sure (someone correct me if i'm wrong) the bass won't get damaged if you neglect to apply the wax once in a while.

@Basstard22 I already bought a secondhand ESP LTD B-206 a few weeks ago, 16mm string spacing but it feels good to me. I've been playing bass for only less than a year so I wasn't 'stuck' in any particular preference as much as I would've been if I had been playing for several years on the same instrument.

Marlowe-good idea to chat about your gear. Sitting here in LA California with headphones on, I would ask that you re-do it with better diction and volume (perhaps just speaking up or mic placement) Exaggerate and pronunciate! A bit of a mumble-even with hp's in a library! Love the 'paint wear' on the '63 Jazz. One of the best I've seen. Aged bone dry wood for sustain.

Hi Marlowe! Love your playing, really fresh to watch on KZbin. I understand from your video how you record your bass into the 'iMac'.Do you record video at the same time as audio and bass or do you mixdown and sync the audio and video up after you've played the track? Curous cause I'd like to try a vid response :-) Many thanks, Graeme - Scotland.

@coolcoreancat Your best bet would be to get a split cable like Marlowe's, or get some (probably more expensive) software where you can adjust latency. There are videos on youtube about getting rid of latency in Audacity, but I think it didn't work for me. I was probably too thick to understand it :p

@coolcoreancat You can download Audacity for free. It's no professional recording software, but still good for recording grooves etc. Don't expect to be recording covers, i.e. importing a song in Audacity and recording over it, because you WILL have latency issues. Unless you have a split cable like Marlowe's, which allows you to plug one end in the OUT on your Pandora, one end in the mic IN on your laptop, and your headphones in the female end of the cable.
