Marmite. You have to get about 3 parts butter to 1 part marmite and it’s just perfect.

Having grown up with Vegemite, I tend to spread mine reasonably well over my toast; the trick is to ensure you smother your hot toast with butter, NEVER margarine. It is a great flavour enhancer for gravies, stews and casseroles; it is also good as a broth, especially if you are rundown by a cold or flu. I love cheese and Vegemite sandwiches, had that for school lunches; and for a snack, also good on buttered crackers(Arnott's Sao biscuit sandwich with cheese, the sharper the better).

I like them both. But have not had Vegemite for a few years. Bought some Vegemite two weeks ago December 2023. To my surprise it tastes different and so much nicer than i remember. Asked my girlfriend if she liked it and she told me she preferred Marmite. Told her to taste this Vegemite as it is different to way it tasted before. She had some and agreed that it's fantastic and tastes different. We are hooked..

As an Aussie that's over 50, Vegemite went from an Aussie company to being brought out by Kraft, then brought back by Bega, an Australian company, and the "odd" bitterness is new, i'm pretty sure (99%) that they now use less salt (believe it or not). I'm impressed by both of you especially the lady/wife/partner/mother (yikes) in regards to the marmite/vegemite; We can get marmite made in New Zealand (i've heard it's different to the U.K), really have to find some U.K Marmite. Your Child is super cute an honorary Brit/Aussie Baby ;D Have a fantastic day.

Never ever eat Vegemite or marmite off of a spoon. It is a sin. Vegemite tastes very cabbage like to most Brits where as marmite is more meaty. Both should be spread thinly. If you haven’t tried Bovril drink next that is your next challenge. It is a beef broth that you add to hot water that tastes and looks a bit like marmite.

I grew up on both. In UK I'd have marmite often but my step dad lived in Oz and would get vegimite. I'll have either depending on my mood. But I do think marmite is slightly better. It's a bit more intense and stronger. Vegimite more subtle. So I guess it depends whether you want the flavour to be subtle or strong

The smell is definitely different and knocks you back at first, so that’s completely understandable!

For some reason it was harder to moderate the amount of vegemite spread compared to the marmite… 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏼‍♀️

@@FromtheHobbitHole Vegemite is gluey but British Marmite (there is an Australian one that looks like Vegemite) is runny. With the vegemite, you take the tiniest bit on the tip of the knife, then mix it in with the thick butter until you get a slightly beige tinge. It's like mixing those two part glues.
