Marmite. You have to get about 3 parts butter to 1 part marmite and it’s just perfect.

Having grown up with Vegemite, I tend to spread mine reasonably well over my toast; the trick is to ensure you smother your hot toast with butter, NEVER margarine. It is a great flavour enhancer for gravies, stews and casseroles; it is also good as a broth, especially if you are rundown by a cold or flu. I love cheese and Vegemite sandwiches, had that for school lunches; and for a snack, also good on buttered crackers(Arnott's Sao biscuit sandwich with cheese, the sharper the better).

As an Aussie that's over 50, Vegemite went from an Aussie company to being brought out by Kraft, then brought back by Bega, an Australian company, and the "odd" bitterness is new, i'm pretty sure (99%) that they now use less salt (believe it or not). I'm impressed by both of you especially the lady/wife/partner/mother (yikes) in regards to the marmite/vegemite; We can get marmite made in New Zealand (i've heard it's different to the U.K), really have to find some U.K Marmite.
