Hi! The main objective of this song is that its lyrics reach as many people as possible because the emotion and the good vibes that it conveys, are already beautifully incorporated in it. Two languages are used, but Portuguese, is the most outstanding because the word Saudade is basically unique in our vocabulary and the most beloved of them all. Greetings from Porto, Portugal.

That’s not true at all, everyone can read a translation nowadays, to be fair the Portuguese music that achieved most of people in the history of Eurovision was FULLY in PORTUGUESE, escrita e interpretado pelo grande salvador Sobral. There’s simply no reason to Portugal keep sending English bullshites to Eurovision

Hello I think that introducing the lirics, in english, gives more impact to the word Saudade. It's one word that means exactly how she feels, it doesn't need to be explained. It also introduces this word to the world. Although it only exists in portuguese, this is a global feeling and, who know's, maybe non portuguese speakers, will use it in the future... 🇵🇹

I didn’t find the quote, which is in the title of this video post, anywhere in Maro’s response?

You’re right! ;) The song was never “originally” in English. It was always bilingual, and it just happened to come out that way when she wrote it with John Blanda in Brazil. But maybe because she says that she started writing it in English (hence the first verse being in English), ESCDaily might have thought that meant that the full thing used to be in English. It wasn’t, the second verse has always been in Portuguese! :)

Where she say that, the song was always bilingual

The word "saudade" does exist in other languages, just not in English. I speak both Portuguese and Hebrew, and I can tell you that Hebrew has a word with that exact meaning.

Finally someone asking the most obvious thing, the music would be so much better if it were written fully in Portuguese
