Exploring EYNSFORD CASTLE | Kent

I’m out in Kent and visiting the ruined medieval fortification of Eynsford Castle. The Castle was constructed on the site of an earlier Anglo-Saxon Stone Settlement by William de Enysford around 1085 to protect the lands of Lanfranc the Archbishop of Canterbury. I also comment on the ‘Ghostly Monk’ photo taken a few years ago…

I agree that lost soles should be everywhere. Take the A12 or any main roads. the number of unfortunate deaths, but no reported sightings. It could be that the surrounding noise stops the sighting.

Marc .I got a theory about the monk, could it have someone bought it from the local fancy dress hire shop ,and trying It on for a party that night, and the Photographer thought it was a ghost. From Tom

I am sorry to tell you this, but you have mispronounced the village name, Eynsford is pronounced Ains-ford, as in the name Ainsley. You are not the first, and you will not be the last.

Magnificent ruin and so nice to have unfettered access. I looked up the de Eynsford family and they were all confusingly called William!

R.E. comment on the prevalence of ghosts, the longevity of the castle structure & the fact that it is stone would make it more likely to retain a paranormal footprint than the average location.

Thank you Ian. Not sure why a Stone structure has any correlation to the appearance of apparitions though. Can you explain further?

There is a perception that silica in stone structures can absorb & retain discharged energies & as these structures are long-lived edifices, there is likelihood of ancient psychic 'fingerprints'. There is much evidence & witnessing to support the theory, not all of it from a paranormal perception.

@@MarqEnglish Very true. & there have also been sightings on bare ground or around new buildings where older properties once stood. Of course 'hauntings' are of different varieties, some a mere replay of a repeated human presence & action, others where there's an intelligent interaction with the present. High emotion is also of course, said to be a 'fixer' of atmosphere in buildings or places. Fascinating stuff Marq.
