Marquette encountered the enigmatic Piasa rock painting just before sailing past the Missouri River. He vividly described the two entwined dragons of the Piasa in his own journal. Odd that it is not mentioned in Father Dablon's Recit.

This village was discovered in Clark County Missouri in 1993. Iliniwik Village State Historic Site. Near St Francisville, MO. Not in Iowa.

Jesuit rings were found in the archeological digs after discovery. This village was estimated to contain over 8000 Illinois native Americans and over 300 lodges.

It's not AkaMsea, it's AkaNsea (it's written right there on Marquette's map). Akansea, also spelt Akansa, is the name given to our intrepid explorers by an Alquonquin. The French also spelled it Arkansa, plural Arkansas.
