I know of a military family in which the wife was the service member, in time, the husband learned that she was cheating with different men during her deployments. He finally found out just before her last deployment, upset that he was probably going to expose her to the military, she filed for divorce while being overseas on deployment. She never told him about her filing, he found out by being served by the courts. Once she returned he did expose her and she was found guilty. Though, adultery is illegal in the military, she only received a slap on the wrist. Until the laws change, men should not get married. It’s obvious that marriage vows men nothing nowadays. “Men will sacrifice their happiness for their families, women will sacrifice their families for their happiness.”

The military law is that adultery is only illegal _if_ it can be proven in court _and_ it actually caused a military problem. If the adultery didn't cause a problem for the commander, the military is not going to pursue it. The military illegality is "making yourself a problem for the commander," and the adultery is just the cause. In the case you mentioned, the only military problem was likely that she was fraternizing across ranks or causing some issues between the men she was having sex with. But if it took her husband drawing attention to it for the commander to even know it was happening...that that wasn't much of a problem.

Concubines are different from mistresses. Concubines were initially women you married that you were allowed to set aside (divorce) for being a disturbing factor to your household, unlike a wife who you had to stick with no matter what. For a Concubine to be legitimate she must never be able to challenge the authority of your wife which was impossible the moment men were able to divorce their wives.
