I might be in the lowest percentile here, but everytime I watch this movies ending even in a clip, the tears just flow naturally. Part of the reason is my parents divorce and how I grew up without a mother for the most part and the fact that this movie is a master piece.

Immediately hit in the gut with emotion once I remembered that letter. Took a lot to keep watching, such a fantastic movie.

You know, when I first watched this, i remember feeling very deeply unsatisfied by the ending, because I was on his side through all of this, and she never really faced consequences for or owned up to how she messed up. It wasn't until I thought back on it that I realized that was the point. Because that's what a real divorce looks like, not like how dramas and lifetime movies would have you believe. It's real, it's painful, it's messy, and oftentimes one will be punished while the other never does, or apologizes for it.

I also loved the movie. But personally I didn't really feel that they regret getting the divorce in the end. Yes, they are sad about what they have lost and might wish they hadn't. I think they regret what happened but I don't think they regret that they didn't fix it.
@Kruzz3y4 жыл бұрын
Same, my interpretation of the ending was more along the lines of them coming to peace with the fact that they had a relationship, they were really good together for a while, but they ultimately didn't work. I kind of felt like things were still a tiny bit weird between them at the start of the ending scene, but airing this out kind of completed the saga kinda, proved it wasn't all just resentment between them both at the end and provided closure that wasnt there previously, and they could both move on at peace with how things ended up.
@mexDpeace4 жыл бұрын
@@Kruzz3y Yes! I feel like the video makes it seem a bit like "well they didn't try hard enough" towards the end but I don't think that was the message of the film. (Ofc this is a video essay and the point is not to figure out whose interpretation is 'more correct')

Great video bro and I loved Marriage Story! I think Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson should’ve won at the Oscars. The only negative thing about the film is the score, it doesn’t fit with the film. The score isn’t bad it’s just it doesn’t fit.

Really enjoyed this video, this was my favorite movie from last year. Im not sure I agree on the regret feeling. For me it was more a realization that they lost something special and how badly they handled things, how badly they hurt each other even though they loved each other. Beautiful scene and great video.

what I got from it is that in the heat of the battle you do not realize the consequence of the ending. And in life one simple mistake can ruin a beautiful thing for ever.

I think the ending was just a big shit on Charlie he has no family anymore the entire movie his son doesn't seem to like him anymore his wife who apparently couldn't find herself is shown as more capable he goes to where his son calls home and faces shut doors and his existence erased his win at the end is validation from the women who just took his life he has to leave his business behind and even still doesn't have equal custody and hes made to dress as a ghost in their family photo seen hidden and lifeless above her fun and happy family and then he gets to babysit his kid out of pity its sad how the point is that its morally grey and even on blame but in the end we just watch a man slowly come to the realisation that he is a criminal for getting a divorce and that everything he has ever had is going to be taken
