If you check the current polls in Canada over they last 2 years you would find that he only represents 18% of the population and has a clause in his agreement that his own party cannot fire him even though there has been much suggestion they want him gone (typically responded with threats by JT as to their career), and many Lib MPs are quitting to avoid having to run again under his banner. We also have a very gamed system where 2 provinces control the majority of the seats (One of which is his home town and riding) which are the determining factor in the winning party not the # of votes. Simmons was incredibly classy in that scenario. Even going so far as to calmly beg that she "please come back" ON TV. Failed to diffuse the rudely inappropriate question smoothly without his wife getting upset BUT HE TRIED to do so without ruining the atmosphere... Then Absolutely showed more respect to his wife than his appearance/pride. Much respect for that

The villain here is the person asking the question. The wife was ALSO very much in the wrong as it would have been MUCH more adult of her to let it by & talk about it afterwards so as to avoid causing an embarrassing scene for both herself and her husband. Having done the opposite, she doesn't deserve to be childishly chased & coddled.

@@hb9614 abuse catches everyone off-guard and it's the intention of a person skilled in this way of being as appears this woman, Joy, is. Allowing someone to cross a boundary, disrespect you, or behave rudely without taking a stand is 'allowing' yourself to be subjected to abuse. There is no way to "smooth things over" with an abusive person. It may be uncomfortable or even awkward, but holding to your personal boundaries with grace can be done... sadly, few do and why this is so rampant in our culture. Simmons did 'allow' it to unfold w/o intervention and only attempted to smooth things over instead of holding for a hard boundary. We all either let things like this go or we learn and decide how we are going to course-correct. Hopefully it's the latter for him next time. I say next time because because unfortunately their are many people who choose to behave as this Joy did here.

Don't disrespect my Joan Rivers! People only know her as a comedian. This woman met my mother and I at a luncheon in Pittsburgh, PA. They had a brief conversation and Joan wanted to spend more time talking with her (it was personal, and Joan had a similar experience). She got my mother's phone number and Joan called her at 11:30 pm. This woman had such a busy day with appearances etc., and after a long day and finally home in NY, she took the time to check on someone she didn't know. Joan was so much more than anyone realizes. Her death was a great loss to her family, community and the comedy world in general. I've gone to Joans standup shows, but I think what will always stay with me, is how she treated my mom. Melissa, you were so lucky to have her!
