Paid off our home in September before I turned 38! Married with 2 kids and the feeling of peace of mind is unbeatable!

What a family win! What has been different for you after paying off the mortgage?

@@MarriageKidsandMoney Prior to paying off the home we were still able to max out our Roth IRA yearly along with putting money into our brokerage account and kids 529 accounts. Since we paid off the home, the money we'd normally be paying for the mortgage and principal payments now go into our high yield savings account and into our joint account! We are planning on going on more family vacations!

Incredible! How much principal is left? Only 9 months to go?!

My goal was to pay off my mortgage before my 40th birthday, but it took me longer... I missed my goal by 9 days. 😢

Have no clue why folks are so happy to be mortgage free... I am happy with close to 2mil debt on mortgage. Is something wrong with me?? I am happy for her though

Nothing wrong with you at all! It's the contentment people are seeking. If you are content with your mortgage (and probably a low-interest one at that), you should definitely keep it. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks... I think different people have different contentment feelings. I personally would feel very uncomfortable putting all my money in housing. Would be constantly scared of what if roof fails, a fire comes or storm? I strangely feel more safe having my money in diversified index funds such as S&P500. I find safety in that almost all the products a typical person uses in their life such as Google, apple, walmart, target, banking, jeans, paper towel, etc... are part of the index. Less likely to me that all of them will go out of business, which gives me the safety. These businesses produce wealth every second, whereas house remains the same or degrade a bit with time.

@@merovingiean Love your rationale! And I agree. Our net worth is $600k index funds and $600k paid off house - and then other stuff, cash, cars, etc. So we're a "both" family!
