I had an epiphany after this episode: Michelle asked for a “Light Skinned Black Man”… I believe she sees David as Latin/Mexican and not black. I think she doesn’t like LatinX or Spanish-adjacent people… I get a Trump Fan vibe from her, like she’s been screaming for that wall on the border to be built immediately. I grew up in the suburbs of the MidWest, and the only Spanish culture you classified anyone as was Mexican. It wasn’t until I moved to NY where I learned about the differences… and I’m black! I was blown away when I saw a black man speaking only Spanish~ that’s when I learned about Dominicans, Puerto Ricans, and the vastly different Mexican people. So I feel confident in this ~ she sees him as a “Mexican-Adjacent”, who our “stealing our jobs in this country. She wanted a Shemar Moore not a Mario Lopez. And she probably doesn’t believe she’s racist because she’s ok with African Americans. #MicDrop 🫳🏾🎤

The issue is the one drop era did a lot of damage and literally stripped Africans and poc of their heritage, their culture, their traditions, their lineage, to diminish everyone with melanin to just black. And sadly that is still upheld by black people today. As someone who has an Afro-Latina mother that looks similar Jazmyn, I personally would not consider David black. He looks like your typical roughly 33% Taino Indian, 33% African, 33% European multi generationally mixed Puerto Rican (meaning all 4 of his grandparents mixed as well). This mixture is specifically common in PR, DR, and Cuba due to the history in that part of the Caribbean. David has shown us he upholds white supremacy. He does not align with blackness. And Jaz please don’t take it personal but I don’t agree with basing our perception of blackness on how police would identify us knowing what that’s rooted in. Mixed with black vs having 4 black grandparents is not the same and both carry different experiences. Thomas is a good example. Some black people will accept him and some will not. Not everyone will perceive him the same which is different from a monoracial experience.
