Oh awesome! So, that is a LONG story. In this case I was using the Arlec / Deta GridConnect, but it is garbage. Do not buy, fails to easily. I have maybe 20ish brands of IoT stuff around the house now that I am aiming to slowly start making videos on, HOWEVER, WiZ is by far the best so far (available at Bunnings www.bunnings.com.au/wiz-smart-accessory-power-plug_p0331090). Phillips is a no-go for me as it requires their 'Hub' and is overpriced. LIFX is also super overpriced. TP-Link Kasa is great, but Tapo is rubbish. They do work, just requires you to create an account, always be online, and does not support 3rd party integration. Mirabella Genio, Lasar, Lenovo etc are all just Chinese-OEMed Tuya products. So is 'Brilliant' actually, but some of their lighting is REALLY good (have used for years). The 'Connect' stuff eg www.harveynorman.com.au/connect-smart-wifi-plug-with-dual-usb-charging-port.html is also Tuya based, and sometimes branded Kogan, but works well if you flash it with Tasmota - I cannot praise their pain-in-the-ass-app though. Lastly, Sonoff is always good, but have to order online, and a good backup brand to WiZ, although not as open. The WiZ option does not have energy monitoring, which I use the 'Connect' for, however, if you can find this TP115 anywhere, it's my favourite so far www.tp-link.com/au/home-networking/smart-plug/kp115/. Athom make some awesome products, HOWEVER, there is a fault with their smart plugs that they are yet to fix (my first video is about this). When they do, they'll become #1 for me. The worst so far has been anything Cygnett branded. Worst than GridConnect. End rant haha.

PS if you just want super cheap super easy and don't care about it being internet-connected (security hole) or requiring their specific app, then I'd say 1) WiZ, 2) TP-Link, 3) Sonoff!

Nah you just turn it on/off at the wall, but I'm using a smart socket - TP-Link Kasa here I think, one of my favs! Else the Wiz Smart Plug's from Bunnings are excellent too. TP-Link Tapo, Mirabella Genio and Arlec GridConnect are all garbage in my opinion.

Hah nah far from it. Not need on sponsors - any offers can fk off and find someone else to sell out. I don't make any money from this, and if you look on my other channel I also got a Phyto and WeeGrow to try. As stated there so far the Phyto is my favourite for cost and spec.
