Hey, Jeff. I plan on buying a 4-piece Amber--most likely from Guitar Center in PSL, Florida. How can I ensure that the 8"Tom and hardware holder will be included with the purchase? Do I need some kind of voucher? Please advise. Thank you ahead of time. EJ

What is the big difference (if any) in European Maple vs American Maple? I hear people bad mouth maple that's not American, but I'm not so sure it's not just a marketing ploy.

North American maple is a harder wood whereas European and Asian maples tend to be softer, similar to a poplar or ash. Because of this the sustain is less, tone is a bit more inconsistent. However, the wood is less expensive and a little easier to work with. I personally don’t think one is better, just different sounds.

@bbhill1981 I own a Saturn maple/walnut kit, so I'm assuming it's European maple. It is the best sounding kit I've ever owned. I've owned a lot of nice kits since 1984, so that's saying something.

The difference is usually in density. The denser the wood, the more articulation and pure of tone it’ll be. That’s not to say that less dense woods are bad; they’ll tend to be warmer and richer, with a higher susceptibility to useful overtones. European and Asian maple varieties tend to be this way compared to North American and Sugar Maple varieties, but they’ll have plenty of the frequency range.
