He has been a well recognized drummer for a long time among the metal scene just as Derek Roddy ,Pete Sandoval George Kollias, Inferno,Lord Marco, and John Longstreth are well known phenomenal drummers in the metal universe. I think the problem is you need a certain level of drum knowledge to even understand how good it is. Like I play drums a bit, but I had no idea what he was pointing out half the time. I know what the words mean, but my ears and brain can't keep up. I'm busy trying to get my 8th note double bass kicks not to sound like ass, how could I possibly understand the complexity of the gods.

He's one of my favourites. Only criticism I see is that live (with Obscura) his snare is drowning while blasting because the sound guy has to level it to rimshots. Apart from that, he's technically perfect. Doesn't get any better than that.

@MichaelGrubbEvolvedMinistry7 ай бұрын
And is there something wrong with flams that I am unaware of?
@hopefulmonsters7 ай бұрын
@@MichaelGrubbEvolvedMinistry no, absolutely not if you want them to be there. But in the mentioned fill, hands and feet are in perfect sync. you don't hear any (unintended) flam and that is a sign of mastery, because at that speed it's very hard to play 'unisono' without having little timing issues, which would cause an unintended flam between feet and hands.
@jadedbreadncircus91597 ай бұрын
Holy shit I know about Diepold. He was doing straight blasts with his fingers without breaking a sweat, & he had to switch to push pull because of injuries from so much practice for upkeep, & also time & life getting in the way. Of course push pull takes a long time to develop at that speed, but it seems like the most long term least stressful technique for blasting. You should also check out the psycho from Ophidian I. I can't remember his name, but he looks like his push pull is some sort of laser precision science experiment.

Dan Presland sounds like an actual drummer. This guy in this video is soon to join Lord Marko on a list of drummers getting exposed. Take away this man's triggers, samples, and electronics, and let's see what he is made of - 100% not impressed in the least with this man. Mr. Presland, on the other hand, is looking at a much brighter future than this subject. Sure, he may, or may not, use triggers on his kicks, but it becomes quickly apparent that he doesn't need them. This guy though, if he was to play an unmiked set, his weaknesses would quickly get exposed.

High cymbals ready for the bat-move... hmmm... I gotta suspect... Well I was wrong... Sugarfoot was my first pick.
@WordToMomsYo7 ай бұрын
Based solely on the position of his cymbals and his arms, my initial thought was Sugarfoot... But I gave it some thought, and figured Sugarfoot isn't exactly the best candidate for "most underrated" -- he's had a very successful professional career and is widely respected by his peers and cohorts for his mastery of drumming fundamentals combined with his inimitable, signature energy and flair. I then probably spent no more than another six or seven seconds going through my admittedly dusty and chewed up mental Rolodex before resigning to the fact that I probably had no idea who this mystery drummer was. So I clicked, and was thus introduced to someone I had previously never heard of, and, well, yeah... This dude is impressive. Ambidextrous, gorgeous balance of precision, speed and power, a creative impulse that helps him differentiate and distinguish his playing style in a field otherwise littered with drummers who seemingly strive to sound like each other (that might be more of a dig at metal than at the individual drummers, but they play a part in it too), and a clear understanding of the inherent value of dynamics and how to leverage subtle variation to make the most of every note/phrase/etc..
