Marshall JCM800 2203X - Hermansson Amplification

This amp is modified by Hermansson Amplification. The whole preamp is rebuilt and there are some changes done to the power amp and the power supply. The attack, dynamics, punch, string separation and clarity in this amp is exceptional! I'm not using any pedals, guitar straight into the amp.
Guitar: Greco EGF1000
TC G-major II in the loop for some delays.
Cab: Malmberg 4x12 with old Greenbacks.
Mics: Golden Age R1 mkIII, Tascam DR-40

I love how it cleans up when you roll the volume back. A lot of high gain amps don't do this. The high gains sounds are perfect, no buzz or fizz, just lots of clarity. I have a Marshall JCM800 2203 that I should consider getting this mod.

Is this an added tube gain stage or a diode type (“José”) mod.....? I’ve seen some things added to the tone (midrange) (added to some Marshall circuits) to give it more gain.....just curious. Sounds incredible.

Thank you! Nope, no extra tube or diode clipping. Just a redesigned preamp using the existing tubes, still three stages + cathode follower but with a lot more gain, dynamic response and string separation.

Really good playing and nice demo. I think with the mod it sounds good but I own an 800 and this one doesn’t sound like an 800, it sounds like a different amp now. I think for the demo really it’s best not to use delay or reverb because it colours the sound and you can’t hear properly what the amp actually sounds like. This is of course my opinion but the Jcm 800 preamp is about the best on any amp I’ve owned, even at low volume the amp sounds good. The mod here sounds like a high gain mod. Not my thing, but many will love it.
