Hi John , fellow Scot here and avidly watch all your reviews. However, i own the fender frontman and feel it has more to offer while on overdive, it really is capable of producing some growl on the correct settings. Also using the guitar tone and volume with the amp volume and gain together is a magical learning experience in low budger sonic sensibilitys, or it will blow your cotton socks off when verything is in its right place. cheers, keep the reviews coming . i watch them over big name channels because you provide intelligent information in an easy to understand manner.

regarding the hiss which goes away when you touch the strings, I've gone so far as to run a wire from the tailpiece to my waistband touching skin. I then went to more trouble and added a wire to run along the length of the guitar cable. One end touches the input jack (unscrew metal sleeve, insert wire, screw the sleeve to hole the wire in) and the other end to the center screw of the wall outlet or some other ground. If you are using a power strip, one of the screws in the box of the power strip may work. Tone vastly improves when that hiss is canceled out.

Interesting short pragmatic review John. Most people who play electric have a small practise amp of some description, and have to choose one if not gifted by package inclusion. Important to those just starting out IMV is price point, until certain of commitment. Those two and the Vox Pathfinder are inexpensive, available, and make a noise, yet one is always torn by that "if I spend just a little more" triage temptation. Blackstar's LT Echo series is close in both price and performance too, although the cosmetic form factor of the Fender is cleverer in its appeal. My pick of the superb value lower budget and output home practise amps would be a Fender's Champion 20 or Blackstar's ID:Core 20. Simplicity and tone, that Fender Champ. Overall versatility for the price the Blackstar ID:Core. It's a fairly hotly contested segment with plenty of choice. I didn't include Yamaha's THR series as although outstanding units, they are significantly more expensive (relatively).

The fender is made for single coils that's why the overdrive isn't the same. Fender amps have a very different type of distortion, you have to lower the treble on them as you get the gain up
@Doowopsid8 ай бұрын
Great job comparing these two popular amps. Ironic how the Marshall doesn’t fair as well since they have always been held up as the quality standard in amps. The hiss is unacceptable even at this small size and relatively modest price. Like your low key style and obvious experience sharing your knowledge. Thank you

I have an older MG15 MSII. This is one that comes with the mini speaker stack. It has real spring reverb and is surprisingly good sounding especially for clean tones. However, it has exactly the same buzzing noise problem which ruins it’s potential as a recording amp at low volume. The noise doesn’t disappear when you touch the strings. I think the problem may be cheap transformers. The MG amps seem to get much hatred directed towards them. Maybe because they are not valve but I think they are pretty good.

I had a terrible Fender Mustang LT25: even with its metal oriented emulated amps, even with OD/DS pedals, and even with the help of a professional guitarist that has helped me trying to pull out something good from that amp.... the sound was ALWAYS super weak, no crunchiness, nasal, distant, "twooty", with the big strings non playables. Nothing is worst than a Fender for metal! Peavey is way better, Marshall and Blackstar 2nd place Btw, very pleasant review my gentle Sir: FINALLY someone that let us hear THE AMPS, and not reverbs, delays and super noisy drums added through pc software: all tricks for inducing the people TO BUY SHITTY AMPS New subscriber ♡

Im a newbie to all this but would love to be able to play this one day so looking for my first guitar and last so any tips on which classical electro guitar would suit the albratros music would help me choose the right guitar. Many thanks
@JohnCouplandguitar5 жыл бұрын
Hi Kenneth, He is using a Fylde Orsino steel string guitar. One of these will set you back #2,500 and of course it is not a classical. Fylde is probably the best guitar maker of steel stringers on this planet. Regarding a guitar for life consider this. A regularly played guitar will be at its best about 2 years after you buy it. The treble will still be bright and the bass should have mellowed nicely. From there however it is all down hill. As the wood dries the treble vanishes and that lovely zing disappears. It happens so slowly that the player does not notice and by the end of year 12 it is time to start again with a new guitar. The frets may be worn and while a re-fret is possible, like all major surgery, it comes with risks like warping the neck. Old guitars, like old men develop pot bellies which will raise the action beyond comfort. The electronics have a similar life span. The salesmen will of course deny all of this but have an obvious vested interest in flogging someones 1960's crap. On a reasonable budget the Takamine electro-classicals are a safe bet. All the best, John.
