A quintessential example of Classic, Hard Rock tone at its very best !

I agree 100%. This little amp is so much warmer & dynamic vs my 50w JCM 800. In order to get my JCM sounding anywhere close to this, the master volume was way too loud for real working situations in most clubs. With the master backed down to usable levels, the JCM loses most of it's headroom. For real working guitarists performing local clubs, I believe this little Plexi is the best amp Marshall has ever made. 100% manufactured in their England factory, and much of the circuitry is hand-wired.

This video, along with your video description, is exactly what it's all about. This is exactly what I love about this little Plexi: It's got plenty of SWEET gain..........yet it's so touch sensitive, it cleans up SO nicely with your pick attack. The amp is plenty loud enough.....as a matter of fact, for medium sized venues, it's loud as hell. It can hang with the loudest drummer. Yet it won't sheer the enamel off the teeth of the crowd & kill small animals. The ONLY way I could get somewhat close to this ability with my JCM 800 ( 50 w ).........was with the master volume set too damned loud. But the little Plexi does it perfectly. It ain't no bedroom amp.....that's for sure. But it stomps my JCM 800 for all of the above.
@mattrobinson3 жыл бұрын
Cheers mate, yeah I think Marshall definitely nailed it with this one. I can’t stop playing the thing ha ha
@howabouthetruth21573 жыл бұрын
And I can't stop posting comments under your videos, lol. I'm being totally serious when I say I believe you are doing more justice with this little Plexi than anyone else on youtube. Your demonstrations along with your taste & approach to guitar & how to get the right tones via pick attack, are spot on, in my opinion. This amp is so touch responsive & reacts so well to various pick attack, with the warmest & most authentic tones. All at real world usable volume levels. Damn.......if only they made this amp back when I was performing. My JCM 800 was only "authentic" when cranked, and at 50 watts rms, it was just too damned loud for the building. I always tell the young, fledgling guitarists: You can always add gain to an amp, but if that amp doesn't already have the ability to clean up nicely WITH headroom........ya just can't put that in it. Sure, there are small tube amps that clean up even better, but they have nowhere near the medium to higher gain warmth & tone as this little Plexi. Subscribed. Rock on young Brother.
@mattrobinson3 жыл бұрын
@@howabouthetruth2157 cheers mate, very kind of you. I’m thinking of doing a future video on the dynamics that can be had with just pick attack on this amp. If you set the amp right you can literally go from clean to overdrive with just how hard or soft you hit the strings. It can be very expressive especially for blues/rock tones.
@howabouthetruth21573 жыл бұрын
@@mattrobinson Exactly! That's a great idea! ( You have already demonstrated that quite a bit with your playing in some of these videos. But new guitarists need such things pointed out to them. ) I immediately discovered this quality while demo'ing this amp myself. Both the head with cab and the combo were equally impressive. Of course the head with cab has more bottom end, but for guys who really dig the sound of the old original studio recordings of classic rock albums will certainly love the combo. Many guitarists don't realize that the majority of those great studio albums were indeed recorded using small tube amp combo's. Joe Walsh used an old Fender Champ sometimes in the studio. Jimmy Page used the old Supro combo's for the first 2 Zep albums. The open back cabinet sound is noticeable. Lots of guys really wish that Marshall went with a 12" speaker instead of the 10", but Marshall claims via extensive testing, the 10" speaker delivers a more authentic overall sound, much like those old studio albums. I guess it's down to personal preference. But hell, the combo version has an auxilliary speaker jack, so most any speaker combination could be used with the right ohm's. The only other modern small tube amp that is as dynamic & touch responsive to my knowledge, is the Friedman Pink Taco, but it costs so much more. Dollar for dollar, I believe I would rather buy the SV20. The money saved could go towards other gear.

@mattrobinson3 жыл бұрын
Cheers mate. Yeah all my videos are at ‘home’ volume level that you can still have a conversation over. It really does sound the same at all volumes. Even very low like 2am with the family asleep. It doesn’t really work like a normal attenuator where the tone changes with more attenuation. The attenuation is already done before you choose a volume. The volume you choose is just how loud you want to ‘re amp’ with the built in 50w tube amp. It makes the amp act as the ‘pre amp’ and the fryette is the power amp. So it’s like using the volume as a gain knob in a way. It really is simple to use and just feels like you’re playing an amp into speakers. There is no attenuator feel to the sound at all to me.
