Apologize for not tuning earlier.....but I'm in love with this rig! The SV20H sounds glorious through the SV20 cab.....throw in a Gibson with buckers and watch out! I seriously need to get a visual decibel meter as you can't tell in the video when the amp is screaming loud and when it's not....the signal into my phone just compresses. Frustrating.....
BTW, I have LOTS of other SV20 videos on my channel, just search my channel for "SV20"

The SV20 in my opinion, is the best damned amp Marshall has made in the past 40 yrs. I demo'd one & love it far more than my 50w JCM 800. I used to gig professionally for years all over east/central Florida. Retired from the club scene in '01. So I know all about hot, dank, humid environments & keeping guitars in tune. TIP: Never...........EVER.......tune "down" to pitch. Always ALWAYS tune UP to pitch. This seats the string better. The string is NOT seated properly when you tune "down". For example: if a string is too sharp, tune BELOW pitch first, then tune back UP to proper pitch. Now that string is properly seated in the nut. Providing your guitars have good tuners & nuts, this does work. Tuning "down" to pitch is a bad habit, and a sin among seasoned guitarists. You do this, and watch how much better your guitars stay in tune........electric and acoustic. TRUST ME.

@@KelsterVonShredster Yeah, 100 watts rms is just too damned loud for small to medium sized venues that the vast majority of bands perform in anyway. And ya can't get those power tubes to get that great tone unless it's cranked up a good bit. Even my 50w JCM 800 was too much to accomplish that at club sound levels. Sure, the SV20 is still loud as hell, but at least you're not sheering the enamel off of everyone's teeth & killing animals 2 city blocks away, lol. That Fryette Power Station is a God send. When I demo'd the SV20 at a local music store, I looked up at everyone & said: "Now why in the hell didn't Marshall make this thing available back in my gigging days?".

@@howabouthetruth2157 if you think the Fryette is good, wait until you try the Waza Tube Expander....I've owned two Fryettes and sold them both. I found they colored the tone and feel way too much...The Waza gives you exactly what you expect. My two cents.

Iv been trying to educate myself on the best attenuaters, wasn’t really sure of the waza was as good or better than pure attenuators. Have you noticed any difference in tone? I feel like saw a video about a year ago of the ox vs the waza and it seemed the waza was darker. Idk if that’s because it darkened the original tone or if it was just not as bright as the ox.

@@KelsterVonShredster Thanks for the latest update! I'm definitely leaning toward using pedals, too. A lot of famous Marshall players used pedals to get their crunch, I remember reading an article in a guitar magazine back in the day. I got the Marshall Origin 20w combo not too long ago and put a DS1 in front and had some serious scream without any fizz or mud. It was almost there but that little 10" speaker sounded too small and boxy but not in the good Brian May We Will Rock You kind of way. I'm sure I'll be happier with the SV20!

how would you compare this to the SC20 you had? I'm thinking about the SC20 or JVM ... how would you compare both? I am volume restricted sadly ... Thanks!
@KelsterVonShredster
@KelsterVonShredster 4 жыл бұрын
i never had the SC20...it was the SV20H that I had before and got rid of it, now I have it again. If you are volume challenged, then get the JVM that has master volume. JVM overall is a great amp. But it's NOT the same as the Plexi. The plexi has more bite and is more clear and cutting.
@SBin-xt5kn
@SBin-xt5kn 5 күн бұрын
You mention the JVM in another response. Its master is pretty good but it doesn’t leave my house. I feel that if I could open it up using the Fryette I would love it more. It’s a 205c. Thoughts?
@KelsterVonShredster
@KelsterVonShredster 5 күн бұрын
Depends on how anal you are about power tube distortion... In my experience that value is distorted out of proportion. With non master volume amps yes it's super important aside from jcm800 that also requires some power tube magic hope this helps

@@KelsterVonShredster, I just discovered your channel and really enjoying the content. Follow up question: I have a JEL20 and a pair of 1x12s. (Bought them from Lauzon Music in Ottawa BTW). The 800 channel drew me in, but the plexi channel is fantastic. Learning a lot of new music now, digging deeper into old AC/DC, Thin Lizzy, etc- at 55, this inspiration is wonderful. So…my JVM is now in a closet and thinking of selling it. I discovered your demo of the SV20 while going down the rabbit hole of Fryette Power Station videos. Wow! Have you tried the JEL20? If I get a Fryette, are 2 plexis better than 1? Keeping the Friedman, trying to justify moving the JVM. Thanks a bunch.

I'm wondering how it would sound with a tweed Fender either vintage, clone or modern, I have a Bassman clone which I've never heard distort due to it's extreme loudness, maybe if I lived on the dark side of the moon I wouldn't need any attenuation.

@@KelsterVonShredster But the TKIM II is not the same thing, it is just an attenuator, so it can't make a small amp loud and it has no effects loop. It also can not handle the impedance of a Tweed Bassman (2 ohms) but the FPS can. Two can hear the same thing and disagree, though I'm now un-decided about the FPS I will be looking into other similar types.
