I’ve got a 2006 TSL that I use through a 1936 2X12 Cabinet and it is incredible to this day. Clean=Plexi, Crunch=JCM800, and lead= JCM900 SL-X as approximately described in the original user manual 😊🤘

These amps between 1997 and 2003 where having problems with bias drifting, causing Red Plating of tubes.Many PCB boards were replaced, I own one and currently on the way to a Great amp tech for the upgraded PCB board! I actually prefer the amp in the crunch channel.

I have this amp and it’s a beast especially with a Zakk Wylde overdrive for that little extra push. I also have a second line running into a valvestate vs100 allowing me to play through both amps at once which gives it a stereo effect and they sound awesome together and separate

I've got a TSL100 and the same cabinet. Have had them both for over 15 years, plenty of shows played, and thankfully no issues outside of having to replace the foot switch.

Nice video. I also have a tsl head plus have the 122 as well. I like this amp. It was a low cost marshall beast because of the reputation. I changed both boards in my amps to the latest version and have had no problems. It gets way loud. I think the sound you are getting is where this amp shines. The mids and present high end stay very defined and up front. It will cut through the mix wonderfully.

I love this amp. Over the years I've owned three of these halfstacks and also had three TSL122 combos before that. I try other things but I keep coming back to the excellent Crunch channel and the obvious benefit of three very usable channels. Excellent amp! I love the volume boost trick with the FX button on the five-button footswitch.

What’s the volume boost trick with the loop??? My guess is because the loop turned up and on causes some volume decrease, that you turn it off to make it louder? I never thought to do that! Great idea! If yours is different, do tell.

My first stack back in 2000 - what a lovely amp, thinking about buying it second hand again. takes a lot of space and as you pointed out, the amp is pretty loud, especially if you use it at home with dogs and kids running around. I guess there was a also a switch to go from 100watt to 50watt only. anyway, a great amp!!

Yeah I love it! Thrilled to have one again. Didn’t realise how much I actually missed it! I have tried using the VPR switch but it’s still pretty loud and can’t go past 2 or 3 on the volume without melting faces. Thanks for commenting. 🤘🏼

I bought this amp brand new in 2007, still got it in storage, sounds just like yours, never liked the tones, could never get what I wanted to sound like, was so disappointed, should have got the 800, every 800 I ever played through just kicked arse instantly!

Great sounds and playing. I have a couple of DSLs that I'm hoping will last pretty well. I'm like you, I've had Marshalls over the years and always miss them when they're gone. Were you able to find out what was causing your volume drop? I recapped an old Crate amp that would drop volume and it seems to have fixed it. It would only do it after it heated up. Anyway, great video... keep on rockin.

The issue was fixed, but it was beyond my understanding. Just hoping it now stays fixed! But yeah, doesn’t matter what else I try, I’m always finding myself coming back to Marshall. Thanks dude! 🤘🏼

If you mainly live on ch 2 then you might like a DSL. They are not night and day different, but the DSL has a little more something on ch2 low gain setting. The DSL series had the board burn out issue as well. If I remember correctly this was fixed at around 2006.

Yeah I’ve heard the DSLs are good. I do use the 3rd channel on this still, but only when it’s appropriate. I have a Silver Jubilee on the way. 😍 So excited!

They aren't widely different but they're different enough that I personally love the jcm2000 and am not a fan of the newer dsl line at all after owning one. Circuitry wise they are actually fairly different. Enough to not be able to sound the same no matter how you eq.

That Marshall sounds good. I have one question for you. When you have the volume off in any channel, can you hear your guitar through the cabinet?

I think that something has failed in the amp and in the volume circuit is the cause of the extreme fizziness in my tsl. The fizz is there all of the time. From volume off to full blast.

you don't need to have an attenuator with this amp it has a V.P.R. switch on the front that switches the amp from 100 to 25 watts.
@DaveWebbMusic
@DaveWebbMusic Жыл бұрын
True. However even with the VPR switch engaged, it’s still very loud. An attenuator allows for much lower (I won’t get in trouble) volumes. And as we know, tube amps like volume.
@BigTyronie
@BigTyronie Жыл бұрын
A 100 watt marshall, on average is only 10-12 db louder than even the 20watt lunch box amps out there. I have a 20watt dsl and its fkn stupid loud thru a 4x12 cabinet. Theres no reprieve from ear splitting volume with marshalls. I havent used an attenuation device since about 2004 when i was trying to use a splawn in place of a superbass for an adam jones tone. I used an alessandro muzzle. It “worked” but stole alot of tone from the overall sound. Gavent ever tried one since.
@danniemoore97
@danniemoore97 Жыл бұрын
@@BigTyronie i actually find that there’s no difference in volume hen you are playing in the same room. It’s just the 100watts the sound will carry further that’s what I find you won’t notice much volume difference but your neighbours will.
@DaveWebbMusic
@DaveWebbMusic Жыл бұрын
Having the attenuator is much more preferable for me. I tried without and used the V.P.R switch (thanks Dannie for pointing that out) but I couldn’t get a comfortable volume that sounded good, especially when it’s just me in the room. With the attenuator I can get full tube saturation and keep it at a volume that doesn’t hurt. Works for me.

Guitars are mid range instruments. Scooping the mids is ridiculous unless the mids are too Honky or nasal but scooping all the mids makes no sense .

Hello. When the master volume of the clean channel is set to 0, does the amplifier mute 100% or does some sound still come out?

These amps are great except for the stupid parallel effects loop, cant get over that. Renders any noise gate usless
@DaveWebbMusic

It is switchable though. You can have it so that it’s on all the time. I’ve found using it that way the noise gate in the loop works great.

So many videos out there about Boss TAE and two notes captor X regarding attenuating amps. I'm NOT a big tech head that knows the workings of so much gear that's available on the market, and it can be overwhelming with so information at hand. All I'm wanting to do is be able to really crank up my Rectifier, Engl Savage and XXX. I have no recording equipment, don't know anything about IR's and have only ever played with real amps never anything digital and know nothing about interfaces. All I want is to get my amps to the real sound inside them at very reasonable volumes. From all that is available what will give me the outcome I'm wanting? I see the Boss TAE has a control to really get the volume you want, where as the captor X seems to have a set attenuation on it between 3 settings (side note my Engl and XXX are 120 watts) Once having a good understanding of this I may start looking into the recording world.

Look into the SPL Tone hunter attenuator (sound reducer) if you haven’t gotten something to suit your needs by now. It is switchable between 4, 8, & 16 Ohms and has 3 basic levels of reduction and a variable switch as well. I’ve been using mine since around ‘14 and it is very straightforward to setup and use and is rated for up to 200 watts. There are some really informative videos on KZbin about it.
