I have had a tsl60 for almost 20 years. Its amazing, I paid 200 second hand around 2003. It is actually designed with pedals in mind. It does take some mastering but once done you can get almost anything out of these.

I guess people didn't like it back then because it didn't work well with v30s. It sounded awesome through my 5150 cab back then but it have this overheating issue. Does the 60 watt or combo version have the same heating issue?

Gigged with it for 10 years . Great amp . What people often overlook is that if you want a classic Marshall tone you need to crank the mids on the TSL. It is a bit scooped in the mids . This is right in the manual . I love my TSL 60

I have a TSL 602, built in the fourth week of 2005. When I first started to use it, I liked it. It was my first Marshall. The love affair soon wore off, and it sat in the corner for three years as I was using my Mesa Stiletto Deuce. One day I decided for shits and giggles to rip the TSL apart down to the guts. I installed Mercury Magnetics Axiom Line power and output transformers and choke. NOS preamp tubes and retained the stock Marshall el-34 power tubes. I built a head cabinet for it as well and use it with the EVH 4X12 'Stealth' cabinet loaded with the Celestion EVH speakers. I also have the head hooked up to a Monster power conditioner that is fed AC from a twenty (20) amp variac set to about 93-95 volts. There aren't any modifications to the circuit whatsoever. I only bolted on some choice premium parts. The way that TSL 602 sounds and behaves now with its mods and less the Wolverine speakers, is beyond unbelievable BROWN SOUND. EVH Atomica in a box. An unbelievable amplifier. So, there is my TSL 602 story. Cheers!

I have a TSL 100 and it sounds awesome. I can even use it without a booster, it's still better with a booster but if all you have is the amp it will do the job. The problem I have is that it runs at 10,000 degrees. When I bought mine, it was red plating. I replaced the mainboard, new tubes and re-biased it. But it still runs SCARY hot. I had a JCM 800 and a 900 Mark III and after hours and hours of use they got very warm to mildly hot. The TSL within minutes of use is BURNING hot. And it scared me that its going to do the same thing over and burn out the mainboard. I have biased it cooler but has not changed this. Also, the peddle is junk. But other than that, it sounds awesome, its load and has some good options built in.

I gigged one solid for 6yrs it was brilliant, still got it had to change the mother board because of the PCB going conductive, it's a fabulous gigging amp if you put a din socket in the footswitch and change the small LEDs for bigger coloured ones that match the channel colours, and the dummy jack in the effects loop to control the volume for home use is a great hack

I bought mine when they first came out Jan ‘99. The 122 combo with extra cab. Had to replace the main board in 2015 because of the heat causing bias jump. Marshall sent a new board even though it was long out of warranty. My amp tech really set it up great. Next to my Bluesbreaker, it’s my favorite amp. Your right that crunch channel is its selling point. I have one Les Paul with 496/500 pickups, and that guitar sounds incredible on the lead channel. Unfortunately the mother board problems gave this amp a black eye that it will never lose. But the guys that slam them are mostly going by word of mouth. You have to work with it, but they are great amps.

its a brilliant amp i gigged one for six years solid it has a great clean, lots of gain on the crunch channel, brilliant lead tone, the only downsides are the hard wired footswitch cable ( changed mine to a din plug and put bigger coloured leds in ) and the dreaded bias drift problem that kills them, i put the new upgraded board in mine its like a new amp now, easy to bias yourself and the fuses are panel mounted unlike the jvm, but since i discovered the boss katana i dont use it anymore

I got my JCM 2000 TSL 100 in October 2000 and still have it and the 1960A 4 X 12 cab I bought it with. I've played blues, punk, heavy rock, metal, pop etc etc using a Les Paul and a Strat. The amp has always done what I've asked of it. Takes pedals really well, yes the FX loop changes the tone but if you leave it on and tweak eq etc it sounds cool. I've had to replace the board recently but other than that it's been a workhorse. 🤘🏻🤘🏻

A friend of mine had one, I Freakin Loved IT!!! I swear, every time I went to practice or rehearsal, I'd go a few hours early just to be able to use it. This was around 99 or maybe 2000, I believe... I'm pretty sure that it was around the time when they first came out. Back around those years is somewhat blurry and fuzzy. Anyway, it was perfect for the music that I wrote at that time, actually now, as well, but yeah... I needed crystal clear cleans, a little bit of crunchy fuzzy heavy rhythm channel, as well as a screamin lead channel... although, nowadays, I'd ideally have a softer strumming clean1, picked/fingerpicked clean2, solo/lead clean3, a dirty/fuzzy rhythm4, a wicked/riffin distortion5, and a supersmooth screaming rockstar lead/solo shredmonster6 channel... and ideally it would have the option of splitting the sound into stereo and using combinations of 2 of these at a time, which I guess that is why I would prefer my old Line6 Vetta II HEAD that could do exactly that!!! I swear by those unbelievably versatile 150 per side/300 watt total 4 speaker output amazingly easy to work with and upgradeable program, sonic-monstrosity uber virtuoso machines are the coolest Freakin Things EVER!!! Running 4 2×12 Cabs with a sealed/ported EV 12 on bottom and a ported/open-back JBL 12 on top, my own custom creations, then splitting them to stereo on hard Left/Right sides of the stage and running stereo Amps/Effects especially with ((or dbl stereo) quad)) Ping-Ping Delays that are timed right, fully induce hardcore hallucinations!!! Yeah, although the Vetta II might not have quite the pure tone of a JCM TSL2000, but the amount of versatility without having to drag around multiple amps from show to show was awesome!!! AND I had people approach me after shows telling me that they'd never heard anything like that before, 1 kid that had just finished the first couple of portions of being a Marine said he was on break and never even drank or done drugs before, was completely sober and said that the music made him feel like he was high on drugs!!! No joke, I swear on my life, that's what the kid said to me!!! I was blown away and thanked him for the most amazing compliment that I could have ever imagined... I almost broke down into tears I was so overwhelmed by the emotion of the moment. It's too bad that my band broke up because of drugs... sad, really. Then I lost my album that I had recorded on a Tascam 24 track. I wish I would have figured out a way to transfer it to a computer or bought a scsi port to transfer it to have copies of or better yet that I would have grabbed it and my equipment and family photos and videos before the California wildfire that destroyed my home, everything I owned and entire hometown of Paradise rolled on through leveling the town. But I remember those days of getting to practice hours early to be able to plug in turn up and start rippin and shredding leads for hours. I was convinced that that thing MADE ME SOUND LIKE A ROCKSTAR!!! HAHAHA Ah yes... the good old days. HAHAHA I think I'll look for one of those on an auction site. Thanks for the memories. Namaste

I absolutely love the TSL.. don't get it. Have been playing since the seventies and have owned many many many Marshalls, still do. My favorite is the TSL, the most versatile Marshall ever. I have two TSL100 heads and two TSL122 combos. Have never had an issue with any of them. There is no better clean channel Marshall out there. These amps take pedals very well. You can rock the Heavens, reduce amp output to 25 watts with a push of a button, silent record direct with a push of a button (which sounds great). I have two Friedman amps as well but use the TSL's more often. Absolutely under rated.

I agree! I have the 122! It seems to play well with every style. The 25w button is valuable for my basement playing ass as full on 100w is madness x2 in a small arena. I was running it yesterday at 25w on 5 with a compressor and Op amp muff and it was pushing some air pretty well. I couldnt imagine being on 7 in a basement at 100w. Lol but I Love Jimi Billy Corgan Jerry Garcia Dickey Betts etc and I can make those sound pretty damn well with just my strat. I love my tsl!

I have played Jcm 800's before and there is no question that they are incredible heads.. but I wanted a 3rd lead channel.. All I need for that push for a lead solo is that 3rd channel... I never realized there was so much hate for the TSL? If you dial it in and play through great sounding guitars it is amazing!! Everyone has their own sound in their head they are trying to match... For me it's the TSL with vintage unicorn guitars.. Thanks for the video!!!

Hey man, bit late to the thread.. I have had 4 a TSLs all in all at different times.. fell in love with the look of the amp as a teenager with a Valvestate 100 combo and bought my TSL122 combo in 1999. Such a great sounding amp and never had any issues with it right up until trading up to the head and 1960a cab in around 2004. Man that first head that I owned was the best sounding amp on the planet. Sounded so wicked. Chopped that in for a JVM around 2006 - hated it and immediately got rid and bought another TSL. Disappointingly, the 2nd TSL to me didn’t quite sound as good as my old one, which is a right ball bag, but.. having learned how to bias these things recently(so easy!) I’ve now got it singing. Stick a Boss SD1 or EHX Crayon in front of it and this thing sounds sick as. Oh and I did buy a mint second hand TSL122 a couple of years ago but recently got rid - surplus to requirements 😂 The amps are definitely not shit! Don’t know where some people pull their info from but some haters clearly have never actually heard one in the flesh, let alone played through one that has been properly dialled in. Great vid by the mate 👍🏼

@@gtrman69777 ya man they sound amazing but the biasing issue was super wonky. Just moving the head from point A to B would throw the biasing out of wack. I've biased one and then took it to play a show where the biasing got so messed up the tubes ran so hot that several soldered joints became undone... Now since I've had them I have heard that there is an actual fix now where you can prevent the bias nodes from moving so easily but at this point when you've had a few crap out om stage while performing, it's a scary situation.

Sorry for what’s going to be a little bit long winded however I say underrated!!!! Love the video it’s the first time I’ve seen your content and I’m now a subscriber! …..I got mine brand new in 2003 when I was 13 I saved my money for two years shoveling driveways and mowing lawns and bought the jcm2000 TSL60H head that Xmas I got a 1936 2x12 cab for it and I still own it although I switched over to a line 6 HX Stomp and powercab 112 in October 2020 because I couldn’t carry my Marshall anymore since Breaking my back and it’s replaced my whole rig since then that marshall was my only amp for 15 years I play as much metal as I do blues and with an mxr distortion + a Dunlop UV-1 UniVibe and a crybaby The tones I got out of it still get me compliments from people and the only issue I ever had is that the reverb stopped working but the foot switch is still the original one and works as it should so my guess is that it’s either the spring tank went bad or the tube is bad but otherwise it’s been played to death for 5 years or so there was 3-6 hours a day of playing at volumes in my bedroom that would have filled a small club as long as dad could hear the tv he was happy otherwise he would flip the circuit breaker and honestly I have no intention of parting with it it doesn’t get used much anymore but any time someone wants to jam I’ve got a full A and B rig and I’m really sentimental about it and how hard I worked to afford 1750$ Canadian when I was still too young to drive myself to the store to pick it up and like I said I would probably have kept it as my main amp if it wasn’t for needing a rig that I could move around without help and the whole headphone thing with the digital stuff sure helps me get in extra practice time now that I’m a father so although I can’t 100% comment on the TSL 100 as far as I know the 60 and 100 sound about the same just the 60 crunch and lead share tone controls and it has a few less bells and whistles but it’s still got the emulated line out although I don’t know if it’s got the speaker cab mute or not….. also as far as I understand the issue that the DSL 50&100 TSL100 had with the bias issues weren’t an issue with the TSL60 for whatever reason and that’s why you can’t find replacement main boards for them like the other 3 models weather or not that’s true or not I’ve read it on forums and been told that was correct by the dealer that sold it to me who himself had the tsl100 and is knowledgeable about that specific range of amps

I think it's good. It's one of those things in life. Everyone will hate on it and avoid it like the plague. Because of the poor sales the company discontinues the model. Then one day, someone famous will use it on a hit song and everyone will be scrabbling try to find one. The price will be obscene on the used market and will be considered a "classic". That is exactly what happened with Les Pauls.

The TSL and DSL both have sloppy channel switching. It's not instanious, there's a lag, so it's a deal breaker for me. It's probably because there so much going on in the circuit I guess, maybe.

For me I love the IRT range, with the SLS being the most versatile for travel, recording and venue attenuation. The heads look amazing though lol just big and very very loud. The range is pretty good for hitting low to high gain also but look at lionheart for clean to clasoc rock/crunch Ironheart for the high gain stuff or as for an amazing pedal platform look at the GH or the new LA30. Hope this helps buddy 🤘🧟‍♂️🤘

If it doesn’t have the issues by now, odds are that you bought one of the corrected issues. It’s just unfortunate that this particular model never shook the rep even after Marshall corrected the problem.
