Todd I understand your joy in trips like this one. Each cast stirs all 3 verbs of fishing. Frenetic, Fun & Frustrating while the driving force of Anticipation keeps us engaged. If you keep making them , I’ll keep buying tickets. Enjoyed it Bro.

"They are where they are. Sometimes it just doesn't make sense." Yep. Back in the 1990s I got into fishing and read two or three of the most popular books that told me where the fish would be, and when. Then I later found out that the fish can't read. lol

Its trout time. On the mid-upper Tx coast its been great. From 630-730 AM yesterday I was able to get 6 specks, all between 18"-23" wading from shore. Im not Chris Bush or Jay Watkins, so thats a great day for me. Thanks for the great content.

Our catch regulation for trout changed too. Ours went to 15"-20" (used to be 15"-25") and 3 bag limit per person with one oversized over 30" allowed per person per day. Sucks down here in South Texas...3 specks doesn't make it worth going out after all the expenses.

Okuma Hakai. I picked a couple new, in box for $70 ea h at a clearance sale. Love the reel. Wish it was centrifugal brakes though.

This weekend, We threw back 3 limits of 12.5” trout - rubber stamps. Still ended up with a good amount of quality fish. Tried to toss the little ones away, but dolphins still got about 10-15 of them. I am hopeful we’ll see a bigger group of fish next year though!

I keep a Viking lithium-ion jump box from Harbor Freight in my boat and vehicle. It has come in handy many times. It’s quicker and easier than trying to jump from another of the boat batteries or from another vehicle. Well worth the cost.

What length rod do you normally use on your jigging setup? I’ve seen some people use very short rods like a 6’4 but others use something more conventional like a 7’
@MarshManMasson
@MarshManMasson 4 ай бұрын
I use a 7-foot. I understand the logic of a shorter rod, but a 7 is a good compromise for casting distance, sensitivity and responsiveness.

I've tried for some here and there. Marsh bass fishing just hasn't been all that great in a while, probably related to last summer's heat and drought.

Have you been finding the fish over there are FULL of worms? Out of 15 trout, all were full of worms. I’m used to seeing one fish like that or maybe 1-2 worms in a fish. By the time you pulled them all out, the meat wasn’t edible (to me anyways). I know they are safe to eat, but very unappealing
@MarshManMasson
@MarshManMasson 4 ай бұрын
Common this time of year because the fish are eating shrimp. Yes, these all had spaghetti worms in them.
@dixie3087

@@MarshManMassonI’ve never heard that about the shrimp causing it… I was under the impression they got them from rubbing on the bottom (I’ve noticed the ones with sores are almost always filled with them).
@MarshManMasson

Yep, the cycle is shrimp pick them up from eating shark feces. Speckled trout eat the shrimp, sharks eat the speckled trout.

Got word from the Regional Director of our NShore CCA Chapter that we have 53 tables of 8 each confirmed for this Th'usrday's annual banquet,to be held at the Castine Center.Maybe de ole Marsh Man can join us,doors open at 6:00 pm and we have plenty of fun with both live and silent auction items.Many.many years ago,when I had both the fun and luxury of chartering some of LA's finest salt-water guides to entertain my clients and one of the guide services I was able to use happened to be Phil Pobichaux's guide service and for whatever reason,they were NOT catching many reds but instead we were nabbing fine black drum,typically 18-22 inch fish and Phil's guides swore that those fish were better eating than comparably-sized reds.They are basically first cousins as reds are know as red drum and of course black drum share the same last name.We NEVER kept many over about 22 inches for a variety of reasons,chiefly that smaller ones rarely had parasites while bigger black drum typically are LOADED with worms,mostly near the tail section.Just got back from yet another incredible Ozarks vacation and we chartered an incredible guide,Danny Barker,and this was our third consecitive yearly trip with Danny and we had our 7 year old grandson with us.Caught 57 rainbows and kept 15,our legal limit and they are great cooked on a smoker,especially smaller ones.Hope to see ya this Th.
