Funny, I used the $1 green/white/orange and have never actually tried to “pop” them to attract fish. I just use them as floating rigs to set my bait height and let it drift. Great cheap float that never fails.

We love our corks here in Texas too. We might have not got on board as quick as Louisiana but we caught on. I always have a cork tied on with a soft plastic no matter the situation. I fish the entire water column with a top water/wake bait/jerk bait, cork with soft plastic and closer to the bottom with a soft plastic on a 1/4oz jig head.

I've been on trips where a cheap cork has out fished those $8 corks. I think it all depends on the conditions like you mentioned. It's best to have a few different types in your arsenal. I try to at least have a oval and a cup type in by box at all times. My next purchase will be the Versa Max... I like how you can change the leader length.

I switched to Versa Maxx Bolt as well, works well. Used the Speculizer popping cork from Gus’s for years before that. Both great popping Corks, but you can’t beat the versatility of the VersaMaxx line of products.

I was really hoping to see what the lure was doing under water also, how much it moved per twitch, how high it came in the water column. Because some of the wire in the cork is longer I think it effects the bait movement. I also think oval vs cup makes the bait move more. Oval gets pulled farther per twitch. Also I only fish cup corks with live bait, ovals seem to kill bait. Iv done the best on the Matrix cupped cork in the marsh. Just my .02.... good video.

I don’t fish a lot of corks nowadays, I want to order one of the matrix cupped. Now I remember a trip when I was a teen in Pass Christian with an older gentle man and his grandson. They used 10’ slaughter poles with 80lb Dacron and a large cork cork. Used dead shrimp and I used a kinda Carolina rig with shrimp. Man they were steady piping. We got in a school of 14” specks And loaded a vegetable hamper. This was around 1960. My dad and mother’s cousin used these slaughter poles in duck ponds in mettle grove to catch reds from pirouges .

Versa Max or Paradise Popper I like the high pitch of little beads and brass. Done with the 4 Horseman i find it tangles up to much. I might still use it if I was targeting Redfish because it's tuff and makes a lot of noise

Jeff i notice that the 4 hm corks do so only when i had braided line on thats why i use versamax now and matrix float
@jefflee64595 жыл бұрын
@@WE5T Yep Braid on top Mono or Floro on bottom ends up being a hot mess. I think its the fact that the cork is so heavy, that it gets ahead of jig head in the air. I think that's what cause the problem. The Versa-max also gives you the depth options.

@@jefflee6459 the depth change is just one more option you have plus you don't have to change your leader that often.

Found another Marsh Man Masson pool video that helps answer the question of how the cork impacts bait action. In the pool test of which is the best jig head weight, check out minute 9:25 of kzbin.info/www/bejne/a2a0fWqklp6erLM. At minute 9:25 in this one, he's testing plastic baits under a popping cork.

Would love to see you test the best tangle-free cork. Every time a cork tangles, fishing time is reduced, so on windy days and casting into the wind, the tangle-reducer could be the most productive. Thanks for all of your tests.

Awesome video! Keep up the good work. I know it's a lot to ask but would have been interesting to see the action of the soft plastic while you were popping, some people prefer the oval fishing cork saying it affects the action of the soft plastic less and don't worry about the extra noise the cone shaped ones give. Also, very surprised you didn't tie on one of the original Versamaxx inline popping corks. I have several and use them as well as the standard popping corks.
@250ozarksuziki5 жыл бұрын
Like u said conditions change things but in my experience the paradise bomber is a trout slayer they can’t get enough of the loud popping noise , and if u want to catch more reds right up against the the bank with a simple egg shape clip on cork... the game Changer is the versa max adjustable leader I bought one bc of you can’t wait to try it out and see how it performs

Run don’t walk from that H&H flexible wire cork. Those things will fly to pieces on you at the worst possible time. I’ll never forget a trip I had this past summer. I was throwing a cup faced paradise popper just like the one you tested, and my buddy was throwing in oval Cork by his dad’s company oddball tackle. He absolutely destroyed me on that Cork. He was using three or four short sharp twitches, which I couldn’t mimic with the cup faced cork.

Alex, it's not the cork you were using, you just weren't on fish. 90% of the battle on any fishing trip is finding fish in the first place. During this time of year, if you get on 'em, it really won't matter what you throw.

I’m a fan of the versa max bolt. I’ve been using it ever since I started watching this channel. Where do they sell them, if, in the Mandeville area? I lucked out on one in hopedale last year and I’m getting a tad nervous of losing it soon with the fall bite in effect. I love the durability of the material it’s made of! It’s difficult to keep the other types in decent shape in my kayak crate.

Corks are my nemesis. I can’t deny their effectiveness during certain times of the year, but prefer other styles of fishing more. It’s the style I can’t leave behind though cause they will hit a cork when nothing else works. Furthermore, I’ve struggled to find a brand and model I love. I’ve had crimps pull, wires kink and break, paint scuff off, and skunk when the guy I was with catch a limit. Right now, I throw a 4 horseman pink oval. I thought I had finally settled on a brand, but this video flipped the table on me. Thanks for a great one Marsh Man!
