This is Mr. Boudreaux's Oldest Grandson from Boudreaux's Waterfront Motel in Leeville Louisiana and the 2 biggest Speckled Trout I've ever caught 1 was on a piece of cut mullet on a treble hook fishing for Redfish in Timbalar bay 6 lbs 5 ounces and the 2nd was on a half of a cracked crab under a cork in a canal off of Catfish bay 5pounds 3 ounces I didn't think Trout would eat those kinds of bait but they do

Hey Todd, GREAT video. It contains a lot of good info. I am going to Port Mansfield this December. I will pass on one tip courtesy of a Capt. Jay Watkins video. He recommends holding your rod down, like parallel to the water, that helps keep the trout from jumping and spitting the hooks. The water pressure on the line by holding your rod down helps!

Awesome, the trout and redfish have moved in more at Hopedale. They aren’t at the artificial reefs, where they normally are. We actually went today, and caught 1 speck 1. Red, and a ton of baby sheepshead, on the back side of the damn in the Mr. Go.

Different kind of Texas Slam. 😂 Glad you got what you came for. Watch the guide again and notice that it looks quick, but it is twitch or reel. Never both at the same time. Subtle nuance makes a bait action difference with softdines and corkies. Love your videos. Welcome to Texas.

I’m not an expert by any means Todd but I fish out of Corpus Christi a ton. A tale tale sign of that bait moving too slow is catching those black drum. You can see as the video progressed, the more erratic you move that bait, the better bites you were getting. Paul Browns same concept… Plus ounce you get one of those sallow water “gorillas”, you’ll want to keep coming back for more. Tight lines and Merry Christmas Todd!!

Those specs were HUGE! I remember as a kid, my Dad would surf fish the jetties at Grand Isle (LA). He would catch the big specs, and seemed to always have a full stringer when he returned...! I was too young to wade out that far, as chest deep water on him was over my head. I was limited to fishing the surf in front of our tent. I'd catch an assortment of fish, and a pretty red sunburn by the end of the day! God bless ALL of us! WWG1WGA

Congrats Todd. I was wondering if you were fishing your braid. When I fish treble hooks, I switch to mono. You should do a pool test and twitch a bait with mono vs braid. It's night and day. If you try to mimic someone's cadence with braid when they're fishing mono, your presentation will be totally different. I'm sure you already know that, though. Those guys have just fished the dines and the corkys enough to gain confidence with them. My last tank was caught mid-may, so I'm about due. Usually, November is my best month, but my biggest trout last month was a only 24".

It's not an impossibility to catch a big trout here, that's for sure. My biggest ever -- 8 pounds, 8 ounces -- came from Calcasieu Lake on June 10, 2002. That was during an incredible five-year run of trophy trout. I caught the 7-7 on the back cover of my book 16 months prior. But in recent years, our fish have gotten smaller on average. Hopefully I'll live long enough to see another run like the one two decades ago.

When I was station down in New Orleans, we used to wade fish in the Mississippi River and catch big red fish and flounder some black drum few catfish. But I don't remember the red fish having light blue on their back fin. The red fish I had mounted don't have it also the one I have and remember getting was deeper gold and brown with the nice spot on it. the smaller one was lighter color. Also, I take my bass boat down to lower Plaquemines Parish and would fish down their some of the best fishing I have even done in my lifetime. But the trout I used to hook were never that big, but when you got found then I would get a lot becasue they school up together. We would have a big fish fry ever other week. sure do miss that. I was lucky to enjoy that for 4 years.

Wade fishing tip Quit grabing the line. Play the fish until you can grab her directly either with your hand or boga. You will lose those big ones if you grab the line and put more pressure on the hooks. Great trip man. Congrats!!!
@MarshManMasson Жыл бұрын
Yeah, as I mentioned in the first video, I was a fish out of water. I just don't have a ton of experience wade-fishing. I also don't have the appropriate gear, as my duck-camo waders and lack of Boga demonstrated. Proper fishing waders and a Boga are on order, and should be delivered any minute lol
@ernieburch Жыл бұрын
We Wade a bunch out of Dulac and Mobile, Al. Don’t usually bring a boga just play the fish until he/she is spent and leave enough line out to grab them directly. Grabbing the line will lose fish and catch hooks in hands/arms. But we aren’t catching those giants. Wow, what a trip. Congrats again!! Love your show

Can’t really meat haul down there. Only allowed 3 per person. Depends on the bay system, but some systems are 3 fish with only one over 22 or 25, something like that. Don’t want to keep trophy fish anyway though.

There are definitely trout like that in Louisiana.. Aint just Texas
@ianjones6910 Жыл бұрын
Why are the trout so much bigger there than in Louisiana? Is it the management, or are there other factors? I know the size limit has to be a factor.
@MarshManMasson Жыл бұрын
Definitely a host of factors, not the least of which is a longer growing season. Stable salinities also play a role, especially for those bigger fish. Their osmoregulatory system doesn't handle low-salinity water well. The Mississippi River is the key to South Louisiana's productivity, but a persistently high river definitely puts a cap on speckled trout size.
