My wife bought one of these used, it was probably a former rental. It wasn't horrible. It didn't have much power and the CVT transmission always felt like every shift was going to be its last. She liked that it sat higher than a regular car (although before this she was driving a Trans Am so almost anything sat higher) . She also liked that it could haul a little more. It turned out to be a gateway vehicle; her next vehicle was an FJ Cruiser.

I actually like it from an economy car standpoint, it gets good gas mileage, and with the seats folded down you have a lot of carrying capacity. One or more of the windows have been changed. And I saw a 2007 Dodge caliber SXT advert here. 2.0 petrol naturally aspirated engine. cvt gearbox. At 114,000 miles. $5700. (Honda Civic 2007-8 $6000-7000.) How do you think I should decide? In my spare time, I will earn money by taking a taxi. I can go 80-100 miles every day. This dodge caliber has started to rust. By the doorways. and in the lower team. It needs paint. I will do these. But does Caliber have a chronic problem? I can give a maximum of 1000-1500 dollars a year for repairs. and it compels me. Its not expensive, especially used, and its not meant to be a Maybach or a Bentley, the interior, is just fine. And aside from the ridiculously unprofessional reviews, actual reviews from mechanics state that its a solid, reliable car, especially with manual transmission. I’ve been waiting forever for this video! I owned a 2008 Caliber and I do have to say it is a neat little car. When I first saw it I was like “what the hell is that even supposed to be?” It wasn’t a van, or really an SUV. It was like a big 4 door sedan or a very small SUV. But after being able to drive with it over the years I can definitely say that the quality of the car was so poorly designed. Ours has the CVT transmission and after driving for longer periods of time it overheats so we basically have to pull over and wait for it to cool down. It’s a known problem with the transmissions on the earlier model Calibers. Plus it’s a Jatco CVT transmission which is junk to begin with. Car has just over 150k miles on it now and that’s really the only major issue. One gripe I should mention is that I absolutely HATE the seating and view in this car. I just have the base model so the seats don’t move to my level. I’m a pretty short guy and I have to sit on something because the seats just don’t go up. Plus the worst part is when I need to check behind me for a lane switch, I find it really difficult because the design of the whole cabin obscures my view. Yeah it’s a very VERY slow to accelerate car (the base model we have) but hey the engine still runs with proper care, and the transmission still shifts good so hey, I can’t complain. But these reasons are also why I feel it was cancelled. Excellent video

I bought my Dodge Caliber SXT in 2010 when it was 11 months old. I read reviews and found that the owners were crazy about their Calibers ( 4.5/5) but the so called knowledgeable reviewers hated this car. I listened to the owners and I am glad I did. My Caliber SXT turned 10 years old this past May and she runs as smooth as silk. I LOVE MY DODGE CALIBER SXT.

My wife bought a 2012 Caliber SXT new with 8 miles after the announced discontinuation at a heck of cheap price (one of the last ones sold at our local dealer) in September of 2012. My wife has used it for the last seven years as the family grocery getter and it has accumulated just over 11,000 miles. I absolutely hate the thing but it has been a nice little put put for the wife. The issues I have with that car is all in the interior. Terrible fit and finish, the plastic ocean all over the inside, seats that are a torture chamber for my herniated disc in my back, absolutely no foot room for my size 13 shoes. Then that terrible CVT transmission it works and does what it is designed but absolutely feels like a rubber band being twisted. This car is a typical Chrysler that has almost no insulation, noise vibrations and harshness are thirty years behind and it is boomy and loud in the interior going down most freeways. The car has been stored in a garage its entire life and therefore looks brand new and the only things done is oil changes every four months whether it needed them or not and two recalls one on the airbag recall and then the cat converter was replaced on a emission recall and what surprised me was the emission recall actually got a little bit better performance out of the Singer sewing machine under the hood. MY wife likes this car so it sits unused and ignored by me except to keep the battery charged and having the maintenance done at regular time periods. It does get her reliably to the grocery store and back home with the food and never left her on the side of the road like her old PT Cruzier that was in the shop more then on the road. I had driven Chrysler products for over 35 years but after the disaster of the PT, I swore off and moved on to different brands that were more reliable and comfortable.

I've had a caliber 7 years. 130k miles. Everything works. No service engine or check engine lights. It does lack performance. But once it's at 75 mph it stays 75 mph. It doesn't overheat. AC super cold with max blast. It's easy on gasoline consumption. Sound system is loud and clear. Although it is kind of tight inside. It's a good beginners car.

I love unique fast cars, so I feel like the SRT Caliber would be perfect for my collection. Unfortunately, just like you said, Dodge had a tendency of imagining bland interiors. Everything inside seemed cheap. Also, no leg room in the back. This was supposed to be a passenger car, so where was the space and comfort? It great for everything. i'm not interested in a sports or muscle car. this is a greatest family car. only one flaw. sometimes the car would act sluggish and kept stalling. it was the sensors. So i was told to try rebooting the sensors by taking off the battery poles for 20 mins. then re connect them. the sensor problem was remedied. this only happened because i had too many other keys on the ring, hitting the tumbler. which tripped the glitch. its great with mileage. so its not all about looks and toys. it functions.

It's been a great car. I was a mom with 3 medium aged kids when I bought it so the plastic didn't bother me. Fairly easy to clean. The chiller came in handy for long trips. Excellent turn radius on this car too (turns tighter than my husband's Corolla). Yes, it takes a bit to get up to speed, but once you're there, it cruises nicely. I found the seats comfortable enough. Stereo was good. I have never once regretted buying my car.

I own one of 5574 csrt4 ever made,MY09 I am the second owner, owned it almost 8 years. I love this car, its special even if its interior is made of cheap plastic, it looks and is, hard to the touch and boring and dull grey, however this car was not made with luxury in mind but functionality and performance and value for money. Most people do not know that the interior plastic is not some cheap plastic, it was made out of a composite plastic thats durable and capable to stand under the deserts sun and withstand high temps without cracking. Once you get inside it and sit on the big bucket seat (you feel that the seat is hugging you) and you drive it around for a bit then you will not want come down. The shifter is where it should be, the 6speed manual transmission is German made by Getrag, it has racing breed. You feel great when changing gears, you feel the car through the transmisdion, you find yourself playing with 2nd 3rd and 4th gears more often as it gives you the joy of boost and acceleration. Its weakest point is, like someone mentioned already, its aluminum block. Once you sleeve that block however, this weakness is resolved and becomes safer, more tunable and bulletproof like the the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo engines, only the Caliber has 400cc more and this translates potentially into more power if you decide to hit some serious numbers. Sure it has a shortage in parts, since its been discontinued officially, however most parts, sensors and peripherals are being used by other vehicles from the Chrysler group. Also, mitsubishi and hyundai share same parts. Some mentioned the sound of the engine or the lack of sound insulation (noise from the road etc).. The car was made with performance and low cost in mind, besides if you turn on the radio with the subwoofer you don't really care anymore for exterior sounds. The caliber srt4 community has gained very large knowledge around this car and keeps going strong providing solutions when needed. Mine is one of only five ever imported. In the streets you can see easier a Lamborghini Murcielago than a CSRT and that makes it more special on its own right. And I love for having a heavily modded one as the power it makes (way beyond stock) can take down easily 99% of the cars out there that cost 3 and 4 times over. Cars like Mercs BMW Porsche Ferrari etc. And this is a humble Dodge.. Whoever onwed one surely misses it despite its flaws and errors and can remember how it felt having one.

Totally fried and burned the wires after it shorted out. After driving Honda for a while (busted the gearbox) I found a silver Dodge Caliber for a reasonable price. It needed some love, but the car is pretty good. I did put some rubber bump rings in the springs to make it less sloppy on the road. Works like a charm. for me, the weirdness of the car is a definite PLUS. I love an underdog as a car. I also have a 1974 Mustang II V6 Ghia. One not so loved by Mustang purists.... But still... I had an 2004 srt4 stage 3 and the normal bolt on upgrades and I could beat srt8 spinning through 3rd gear. My brother had a srt6 that would give even the new srt8 a hard day. If they made the srt4 dart awd like they where going to it would of killed the srt8 sales badly and that's a fact. Oh well and this is why bean counters suck. The srt line up I consider like a special edition they don't need to make profit off them when such a small batch of them are made. It should be made for their hard core fans. It should be looked at like giving back to their hard core fans.

That makes sense. 5-6 years ago, I was at my local mall. Pulled over in the Best Buy lot, was a Dodge Caliber, that was smoking lol. When I got up to it, the plastic engine cover was on the ground, and the fire department was spraying the engine bay with a fire extinguisher.

I bought one new in 2007 after my beloved Neon was totalled. I still have it. I love the manual transmission and the stereo, but I have had to basically replace the front suspension every 50,000 miles. The what, sub-frame, or whatever, was total rust. The plastic in the interior is harder than stone and very uncomfortable on elbows. Tiny rear window. No tachometer, though a stick. Still, after all these years, CANNOT judge how close I am to cars in front or behind. Paint going away. Because of the stereo and the manual transmission am keeping it until I can buy a new car. Have grown to like it, but it is a crap design, as if an afterthought. Changing a brake light is horribly difficult. Somehow I have had to change only ONE bulb in 12 years. Oil leak began about 16 months ago. Not bad. Sensor failures are horrendous because the car is fine, but failure of the sf sensors make it undrivable. At this point I am fine with it, but it was a crap job by Dodge. Looking forward to a new car, but if I cannot find a manual transmission I will keep it for that.

I will go University and after university ı will work with this car sometimes. UBER/Taxi 🚕. But ı very love this design CALİBER STX 2.0 benzinie&gas in 115.000 miles. There is rust on the door edges of the car. While waiting at a red light, the engine shakes a little. These are the bad things I've seen. But this seems like the best option for the money. I like the design, the height from the ground. How much do you think it will cost every year for repair?

@@tunacetinkaya2179 I don’t know about the RT and SRT, though structurally they are probably identical. Outside of the suspension it’s been a good car with a great stereo. Good gas mileage, about 30 miles per gallon. But, I’ve spent thousand$ on front suspension problems and have had to replace both sub frames. Last repair was $1600 mainly for the rear subframe (used, with control arms) and a tie rod, but also other stuff. Two separate sensor failures made the car undrivable even though there was nothing wrong with the car itself. I’ve had it 14 years, 128000 miles. Haven’t had to fix much else, though, beyond normal things (brakes, tires). Only rust is driver’s door. Paint is wasting away (probably my fault). If you like the car and how it drives then go for it, though I would not purchase another 2007 Dodge Caliber myself. Check out why it’s shaking, though. Hondas are definitely more reliable and longer lasting, but make sure you buy something you will like and care about. That’s important, too. You car is part of you and your life. If you hate it you won’t be a happy person

@@christopherhazel2837 Thanks for your valuable reply. In summary, where I am, prices are Civic 6500-7000$ Caliber 5500-6500$. Opel Astra 5000-6000$. so they're all pretty much the same. all automatic transmission.. I really like the look of the caliber. It has a CVT gearbox. 2.0 petrol. and the seller said the price was $5700. with a discount of about 300 dollars. Tomorrow we'll go and get your engine checked. If there is no big problem, I want to buy the caliber. I will drive the car an average of 80-100 miles per day. The car came here by auction from America. I think he has an accident. i will get it checked. I like Honda civics too, but I haven't found them in good condition yet. Do you think a healthy caliber would be too much trouble 80-100 miles a everyday? now mil is 114.000. Is the electrical part too problematic?

@@tunacetinkaya2179 The engine seems reliable, it’s a matter of the sensors not going bad. Definitely find out what causes the shake and anything else that needs attention. I cannot judge it without looking at it or knowing details. I know that I drove it 1100+ miles to Fort Myers, Florida and back and during that week there (circa 2300 miles total) with no problem, but that was in 2013 when it was not very old. Other than the suspension issues and sensors it seems pretty reliable otherwise. Don’t know about the ones with automatic transmissions, mine is manual. Mine also has an oil leak. Mine has about 124000 miles on it, but it’s also the base Caliber and has the smaller engine. It’s up to you. I hope I helped a little bit. Good luck

I had a 2005 Stone white SRT4 that won the Mopar Nationals when they had it in Orlando Florida the car had a Darrell Cox stage 2 had a precision 54 mm turbo methanol injection sparco front mount. Mopar stage 3 coilovers. I also had a 2007 caliber RT all wheel drive. At 1 second place at a car show spring break Nationals in my SRT one first. I absolutely hated the Calvert it was slower than hell it had all-wheel drive it was a freaking turd I had them both decal like a AAR cuda. Carbon fiber hoods on both black roofs black wheels I was going to trade it in on a SRT4 when the new ones came out but I hated the car so much I just unloaded it and got a SRT8 300C anyways the caliber SRT4 with so bad it couldn't hang out with anyone . Like the Subaru's the Honda even the neonsif you had a SRT4 neon and a Calvary came along you wanted nothing to do with them they couldn't be in your little click or group even at car shows no one won at the park next to them they were the redheaded stepchild slow car horrible design very cheap feeling.

Hello there. I am a student abroad. I am Turkish and live in Russia. Before I saw the Dodge Caliber, I was looking at the Honda Civic. It attracted me because the price is cheaper and I like the design much more. But unfortunately, the Calibers that came here are of the kind sold by auction from the USA. often accidental. But I already plan to ride until next summer. Until then, I want to save some money and buy a better car. If you were in my place, which car would you choose? It will be my first car.

@@tunacetinkaya2179 Tuna mine has 45,000 miles and has not had a hard life and is serviced. its likely the ones you are looking at have had a much harder life. If you are going to drive a Taxi I would NOT buy any car with 114.000 miles on it. you want a cheap car for driving people about as a taxi get a Hyundai or a Ford with low miles. Parts are cheaper and easy to get.
