Marta Pereira da Costa is the first and only professional fado guitarist worldwide. The Portuguese guitar is very closely associated with fado and Pereira da Costa has risked new sounds and sought to give voice to her instrument through the world of jazz, world music, and Portuguese music.

Marta is certainly a very good guitar player with her own style, but i'm afraid you must have very few knowledge about portuguese guitar to pretend that she "really raised it up to a new level".

Tantas vezes me pergunto, o porquê de nascer alguém tanto talento e ainda por cima ser abençoada com tanta beleza? O que resta para as outras, comuns mortais a quem o destino ou seja lá o que for apenas deixou uma vida anónima e tantas vezes difícil sem que ao menos tivesse tido durante a vida, nem que fosse apenas um dia de glória. A Marta Pereira da Costa, embora excelente guitarrista, não é a primeira nem a única guitarrista profissional da guitarra portuguesa. A primeira guitarrista a tocar este instrumento (que julgo que ainda toca) foi Luísa Amaro, que também tocou com Carlos Paredes.

Why were they using an electric bass guitar?That instrument has nothing to do with traditional Portuguese music!!!Also,they should not be using a guitarra Portuguesa to play American Music.l am referring to the song that was written by George Geershwin.

Fado and Portuguese guitar are commonly accompanied by a bass instrument. In the old days it was a Portuguese version of the acoustic bass, but its sound couldn't keep up with the Portuguese guitars sound. Because of that we started using more electric alternatives for bass
