Pletnev's brilliant improvisation-accompaniment in flowery baroque style on the piece that Martha has always played since she refused to study other encores. It's a brilliant, ironic idea. the sound is beautiful!!!

Argerich English suite 3 + Pletnev improvisation. Just first and final phrases are BWV 565.

Not improvising - clearly are using the score in front of them. I would guess it's Pletnevs pastiche of various Bach works, don't think Argerich does any transcription/composition.

MP can improvise that stuff, but I don't think MA can, so he set it up for her to play the original.

@@kd-wk8nd actually, I don't really think so. Her comments about other pianists that do improvise seem to suggest that she's just not an improviser, and in fact I've never seen any video of her improvising except for playing bland arpeggios on a piano and then snippets of actual pieces.

100% she is excellent at improvising. You don’t hear most pianists improvising, we just see tiny glimpses of them on KZbin etc eg Kissin, lugansky, richter etc but they all can to a very high standard. I think you overestimate the difficulty of improvising for a pianist at her level ie best in world level.

Serious musicians also like to have fun. They're not sacred entities,they're flawed human beings like the rest of us. They experience emotions just like the rest of us. I'm always amazed how many classical music audience members attend concerts because it makes them feel special/privileged/smart/cultured. Oh, the irony. Clownary... it is an apt description of this behaviour. Which often plays out in KZbin comments with half informed music lovers. Sigh.... this behaviour is why so many unfortunate people think classical music is inaccessible.
