I've been going to MV for 43 years (I worked there summers in college)& my wife and I have a house in W. Tisbury. Your dad is exactly right, the best thing is the smell of the air. You have a lovely family & this is a very good travelogue of the island. Well Done!

You guys didn't go to Menemsha. Your parents should love the Menemsha Fish Market. A great place to go for lunch...great seafood! I live in California now, but as a kid, I grew up on the Island. We had a summer home in Vineyard Haven on Summer Street. We lived in New York but spent all summer on the island every year. I haven't been on the Island since 2006. Glad your family got the chance to experience Martha's Vineyard.

They used to keep the lobster ice cream out, but now they keep it in the back, and you have to ask for it.

I’m headed to Vineyard Haven next week. Do you need a car to get around the island or are most things in walking distance? Is there public transportation?

I would suggest a car if you’ll be driving around the entire island, but there is also bus transportation you can use. It’s really efficient!
