Hi, GlitterQ. I would not recommend washing the bowls, these are purely for decorative purposes. If anything I would just use a dry cloth to wipe it down. The directions do say that you can add a top coat sealant on it if needed.

If you use a couple layers of acrylic sealant you could use it as a cereal bowl and it would be fine. If you have a kiln you could actually do a thin glaze and then bake it...

Do you use a sealing agent at all? I've never tried this.

Hi, Eve. I think it depends on the fabric of the shoe. I bet a canvas or smooth surface would work best compared to a suede. I would suggest putting a top coat over it to really seal it. Test a little area of the shoe first before doing the whole thing. Great idea!

Using real gesso is better... you can still use the fake gold or get real gold from johnnealbooks.com instacoll or Jerry Tresslers pink gesso works great for that raised gold leaf look. But gold leafing is called Gilding. It’s what Calligraphers used back in the day to decorate books, Bibles, and other important documents ;) I’m glad you showed this video on her adhesive! I have wanted to try this but hesitated bc it looks like it could get really messy.. the finished bowls look soo pretty though! Small sections at a time 👍🏼 got it

Can you wash the bowls after? Do you need to put a seal on it?

Is this product food safe? Would perhaps using a food safe top coat make it possible to use it on things like tableware? I'm getting married later in the year and one of my colours is copper, and I'm finding it really difficult to find cheap ways of incorporating the colour into the tableware, instead of using silver which would clash with the copper decorations (which I'll be spray painting most of).

kittenbuns I just tried to research it and was unable to determine if it is food safe and I have not tried it with a food safe top coat but I will look into that! Perhaps try a larger decorative dinner plate gilded in copper underneath the actual dinner and salad plate with copper napkin rings or gild any vases on the table if you will have any! You can get Martha Stewart's gilded paint it's food safe dishwasher safe but of course not microwave safe
