My oldest son does not like sweet potato pie, but he loves pumpkin pie. One year I made two pies, one pumpkin and one sweet potato. All of the pumpkin pie had been eaten but two pieces of sweet potato were left. He thought it was pumpkin and ate one. He said that was the best pumpkin pie I had made. I then informed him that all of the pumpkin pie had been already and it was a sweet potato pie he had eaten.

How do you prevent the sweet potato pie from having those strings that cooked sweet potatoes get?
@juliamason83933 жыл бұрын
@@direfranchement I use a Oster mixer, and I bake my sweet potatoes before mixing the pies. I make deep dish pies so I get two pies from my recipes. The strings wrap around my beaters and I just pull them off.

I've never had any of those desserts, not even chocolate whipped cream. I gotta start to try making these instead of the old stand bys I always make. They look delicious!!! Love you, Martha💜😍

Suggestion: weigh your mixing bowl before adding ingredients. When you go to split the batter between the pans, you can subtract the weight of the bowl and divide by 3 to get the exact amount each pan needs.

My scales can’t take the weight of a bowl with the cake mixture.

My grandma used to make a cake called a Pig Pickin' Cake.. I have found many recipes, but none taste as good as hers... Miss Martha, do you have a good recipe for that one? 😊
@direfranchement3 жыл бұрын
You're not going to find what you're looking for. It's the same as my grandmother's cornbread. I sat and watched her as she walked me through how she made it and yet no matter how I've tried, I have never been able to reproduce it.
@geniarome3 жыл бұрын
@@direfranchement I know what you mean, it's less to do with the recipe and more to do with the person making it. 😉

I made a hummingbird cake once. It was delicious but weighed so much I was afraid to go over 3 ton weight limit bridges when I delivered it to my MIL. . 😆

I'm curious as to how come the hummingbird cake came out dark??💜
@mythyme092 жыл бұрын
It's because of the high sugar content. It caramelizes very dark on the outside of the cake. The crumb of the cake is not the same dark color. You'll find this with most carrot cake and many other spice cakes.

Hi Martha! Will I be able to make a normal cake using the hummingbird recipe if I leave out the pineapple purée , bananas and the nuts? Or will it be too dry?
