I believe it has to do with the fact that a lot of tough guy types see niceness as a weakness. The fact that they know they can handle themselves and defend themselves in almost any situation allows them to be nice because they know they are strong and don't have the insecurities that many other people have. If you notice some of the weakest people act the toughest for the exact opposite reason. They know they are weak so they feel the need to act aggressive as a defense mechanism.

Um toning is in the category with strength building. Look at Bruce Lee that is toned and more common term RIPPED! But he's not all that huge muscle wise. Toned/Ripped is when your muscle definition and separation starts happening and that is diet dependent as well. I've been working out for years wrestling, mma and Israeli krav maga. Yes you want huge muscles but you don't want a blob you want definition buldge and separation of the bicep, tricep and deltoid as well as traps.

Your muscles appear more 'toned' either because you have gained muscle mass or lost fat, or both. Like i say toning where by you can do some excercise to improve the definition and shape of your muscle is nonsense, you either make your muscles bigger or remove the fat to show more of them, thats all.
