Lovely video. Nadesico is in fact my favorite show of all time. Ruriruri is my most favorite thing to cosplay! There's not many rather interesting videos that detail around Nadesico well besides regurgitating a wikipedia article, or simply summarizing typical events. While I certainly disagree that the movie hurt a lot of the fun the series had built up on ^^ as I quite love the movie too, I really enjoyed listening to what you had to say! Typically whenever I leave a comment on a video, it's just as a silly joke, however I was very amused the whole way. Gl on your future endeavors and never forget the man who led us here, mister Gai Daigoji! One thing you may be interested in knowing is there are actually multiple interpretations of the blank of three years that are novelized (at least two), less you mentioned them and I accidentally glossed over. They are pretty good reads all throughout! Unfortunately, you do need a decent knowledge in Japanese even if you were to translate them. I will say given the title "blank of three years" has such suspense behind, it appears at least to me that they had probably released the game late on purpose as a way to entice people to flock to purchasing it for the sacred answers!!!! Too bad easily some of the most interesting events in the entirety of Nadesico occur in it..

if the blank of 3 years and the mission were made as OVAs instead of video games,then things would have turned out MUCH BETTER for the series

Genuinely? Yes. Either that or have them be a Trilogy of movies that would have been a lot better to swallow

This seemed like a fairly comprehensive, thoroughly researched essay about Nadesico (to the point where I wondered whether "Get to Know Nadesico" might've been an alternate title you'd considered). I think the only thing really missing was a mention of the Gekiganger OVA, which, despite featuring very little screentime involving the Nadesico cast, IMO managed to capture the overall tone of the tv series much better than the Prince of Darkness sequel. I was a pretty big fan of both Nadesico and Eva back in the late nineties, as I first started purchasing them on VHS, but eventually switched over to the DVD's. Didn't really get the impression quite so much that ADV Films was marketing Nadesico as the next Evangelion. It felt like that particular narrative was reserved much more for their release of Rahxephon just a few short years later. I mostly recall hearing about how Nadesico was at or near the top of most Japanese popularity poles at the time. Of course, having grown up on a steady diet of space opera, such as Space Battleship Yamato and Super Dimension Fortress Macross, plus giant mecha shows like Mazinger and Getter Robo, it didn't take very long to realize that Nadesico would be right in my anime wheelhouse. While Nadesico definitely enjoys poking fun at these genres a great deal, I think it managed to balance a lot of that by also paying tribute to them and at times, feels almost like a celebration of anime that came before it. IIRC Mel Brooks once said that you can't do parody properly unless you have a deep love for the material in question. I feel that was certainly the case here. Evangelion is a series that I've always found quite thought provoking. However, my overall relationship with it continues to be rather complicated. After spending several episodes painstakingly establishing a cast of interesting, three-dimensional characters, a fully realized unique setting, and an intricate plot complete with multiple X-Files level conspiracies, much of that buildup is set aside in favor of an abstract exploration of its core themes/message. Furthermore, the director seems to be practically indicting the audience for the cardinal sin of getting needlessly caught up in the lore and missing the entire point. All of this, of course, is very much open to interpretation. I recently had a chance to re-watch the Nadesico tv series, and while it doesn't perfectly resolve all of its various plot threads by the final episode, overall I might just prefer the way it handled everything. Faced with the possibility of destroying the artifact responsible for controlling all Boson jumping, the crew ultimately decide against it, as it would effectively cancel out all of the events leading up to that point. They instead agree that retaining their shared experiences and memories from the past year are more important. Everything that brought them together on the ship and ultimately led to them becoming a sort of surrogate family has value and meaning. Maybe I'm reading far too much into it (or becoming a bit too sentimental these days), but I couldn't help but interpret this as the writers way of basically telling the audience: Thanks for going on this little ride with us for the past twenty-six episodes. We appreciate the investment you made in following along with the characters and story. We hope you were entertained and, not unlike the crew of the Nadesico itself, will look back on it all with fondness as time well spent. Call me crazy, but I find that to be an pretty uplifting note to end on.

I only watched Martian Successor Nadesico because a few years ago I bought acid and they hid it inside a Nadesico dvd, if they had just kept the dvd it would have been the best $3 they spent at cashies

Mecha Peaked with Votoms, ,Gundam and Macross in the mid 80s nothing has lived up to those since. VOTOMS is god tier and criminally underrated. IMO its the best real robot series ever (tho macross plus comes very close)

It's really a shame this franchise was fumbled so badly. I remember first watching it when it was broadcast in the UK on the Sci-Fi/Sy-Fy channel in 2002 as part of their "Saiko-Exciting" Japanese-themed segment (look it up, it's endearingly cringe) and it stuck with me for years despite the fact they only broadcast half the series of episodes. I finally watched the whole thing last year and it's so good, I love all the characters (especially Ruri and Izumi) and they honestly deserved better.

I got it on Bluray cause of Super Robot Wars, i think Super Robot wars did a better job with the characters than the show and movie did. That being said, i think Evangaleon is kind of garbage. Didnt like it.
@Timberwolftrass11 ай бұрын
i never understood why Evangelion is so popular. the story itself isn't the greatest so it all depends on the characters and the main protagonist and... Shinji isn't really a very compelling protagonist. and he didn't get a whole lot of character growth either. I just don't get it... especially with how many other mecha animes are out there there are superior in either story or characters or both.

The people that watched EVA (90s series) is divided in 4 groups: 1. People who didn't understand a lot (but detected there was something they didn't get) and either did research / discussion, or wait until the mysteries are solved, appreciating the hard work of the series's writing and features, for a 90s anime, in the process. 2. People who didn't understand a lot, but got the basic idea from the explicit information in the series. Thus, considering it was not so hard to understand, dismissing/ignoring all the info they didn't get (from the TV show alone), and either comparing or remembering the meme and waifu design with some current anime that keep the similar design or """writing""" in the female leads/cast. 3. People who watched it nowadays, didn't understand a lot and even the explicit references were out of their league. So they just embraced the memes, and waifu design in the most superficial way. 4. People who watched it nowadays..through a YT summary or explanation video. Thus, arguing it is not hard to understand and is overrated. 5. People who didn't understand a lot, but recognized there was something the series was telling them just they didn't get. In due time got to understand most of it cause of the access to that information, but over hyped the product looking for "complexity" and symbolism whereas the author himself says there is none. People saying they got most of EVA info on the first watch IS LYING.
