I was lucky to see Tull perform Thick as a Brick in Exeter in 1972. They were outstandingly good!

I saw them in 71 Tull had just released Aqualung so they did Aqualung and bits of Benefit the opening act was Yes on their 1st American Tour , the single best show I have ever witnessed. it was in the OKC Symphony Concert Hall incredible acoustics

Your show sounds great, especially with Yes on the same billing. I still have my copy of Close to the Edge from 1972 but sadly have never seen them perform. On the subject of most memorable shows, for me the first performance of The Wall by Pink Floyd at Earls Court in London remains my all time favourite. Keep playing end enjoying music :-)

Just imagine, the first floor was Led Zeppelin recording LedZepp-2 album, and second floor was recording Aqualung! I have to admire the construction of that building. How did it hold up!

It seems like Aqualung was the first twist in Jethro Tull where Ian sort of took over the whole concept of the album and drove it into a kind of churchy, folky, rocky genre, original, but yes, maybe risky. Lots of people really liked it, especially here in America. It was so unique and so well done - a real historic milestone of rock, plus the cover was really great too.

Aqualung was THE Jethro Tull album ... it put them on the map. It was the first album of theirs I have ever heard, and if they had not done that album who knows if I ever would have liked them so much. probably since I also loved Thick As A Brick and Living In The Past ... and then I went backwards. An album a year ... that is a pretty amazing record.

Zep & Tull in the same building at the same time both doing albums that would become life changing for them both. "Bad Martin" 😂 Led Zeppelin 2 was released in the U.S. on Halloween of 1969! Zep was working on the fourth album in '71 it was released Dec of that year. Although I believe the story was, most of ZOSO ZEP 4 was recorded at Headly Grange and originally mixed in the states but when Jimmy got home and listened to it something went terribly wrong. He had to remix the whole album. Knowing Jimmy Page was present when Martin recorded his famous "Aqualung" solo somehow makes it even more magical knowing that! Also now knowing Jethro Tull Aqualung & Led Zeppelin 4 were both being worked on in the same place at the same time makes them both somehow even more special 👍☮️

That's right about the time period and Martin wrongly saying that Zeppelin were in there recording their second album. It was their fourth one instead. Too bad because other youtubers like the excellent Carl Baldassarre have repeated the historical misinfo.

One of my all time favorite guitarist. Killer tone great solos etc. Saw Tull on Thick as a Brick tour in 72 I think. It sucks he doesn't tour with Ian Anderson.

Martin, 25, here's a little help with your maths. That was the song that started me with a love of Jethro Tull's music which goes on to this very day, uh, sort of. Only sort of since the band does seem to have fallen apart. Thank you for the many records, cds, tapes, concerts that I have enjoyed over the many years.

justgivemethetruth, here's a little help with your math. Aqualung album was recorded from December 1970-February 1971, and released in March 1971. Martin Barre was born November 1946, which means that he did not turn 25 until November 1971, about 10 or 11 months after he had already recorded this solo. Therefore he was 24 when the album was recorded and released.

Kind of stupid to say that Aqualung is not a concept album ... of course it is. Hard to figure out what the concept is exactly, but it just has a feel that all the songs hang together in a kind of conceptual concept includes folksy, churchy, Englandish, Dickensy kind of consistent vide across the album that did not fit into anything else.

Aqualung IS NOT a concept album. That, and pigs have been fed and are ready for take off. Both of my copies (1971 vinyl & 2011 Steven Wilson CD), seem to have similar lyrics throughout.

not even close. If it was soo good, why didnt martin barre ever play it live, JUST LIKE THE RECORD. the lead is great but he let me down, and his fans by never playing it like the record. he played the beginning and the ending of it but strayed because he felt he needed some strokes or something
