He had her thinking that he had contacts inside MI5, he was very plausible, he arranged meetings in underground car parks - they're scary at the best of times - but when you think your life is in danger it was very potent. She was put in a state of fear and trepidation and that encouraged her to speak out. When she gave the interview, it wasn't a case of self-indulgence, as many people thought, but it was a question of self-preservation, she thought she was a target, she thought from what Bashir said she was under the gun, in the sights of the establishment. It's also scandalous that Martin Bashir was employed just a few years ago, ironically as head of religion. I feel so sorry for Diana ❤

I saw both famous Bashir interviews. Watching the Diana one, I didn't observe much noticeable manipulation from Bashir, whatever was going on behind the scenes. However the Michael Jackson interview was the most manipulative long interview I have ever seen. He was obviously setting Jackson up from start to finish. How he was talking to Jackson himself - easy, not too pushy - was in strong contrast to how he seemed to condemn him in his commentary. After that, I never trusted Bashir to be an objective journalist again. Though I agree with John Ware about right wing politicians and newspapers looking to use things like this as a tool to undermine the BBC and the whole idea of public service broadcasting in the UK.

He lied about Michael in his video and didn't realize MJ people was also recording the whole thing. I am shocked to see how Bashir cut things out to suit his naritive. In one part of the video MJ people recorded you can actually hear Bachir say what an amazing person Michael is and how much he cares for children. But in Bashirs video you see how he changes every thing and makes MJ look like a monster. He deserves to pay for what he did to MJ and princes Diana. He needs to be held accountable for his actions.
