Paul Bigsby was a talented engineer (as also evidenced by his Vibrato units). The headstock on this, and on the electric he built for Travis, served the purpose of keeping the string alignment straight after the nut to the tuning pegs. (Before Fender) This would slightly increase tuning stability, sustain and intonation. And the maple neck should induce a little snap and clarity. Yeah, it looks kinda goofy on a Martin, but the functionality, by way of engineering, is pretty straight-forward. I like it!

The famed Thom Bresh Bigsby guitar looks like it's a narrower and more comfortable 1 11/16" nut width which, IMHO, has a higher playability and is far easier to throw your thumb over. Unfortunately, as usual, the modern Martin build is obsessed with the wide 1 3/4" nut. Why oh why?!

Went to one of the best vintage guitar stores in the US recently to try out dreadnoughts. This model sounded better than about 8 other high end or vintage guitars we tried, including a few Collings, a 2017 D28 and an HD28. Say whatever you want about the headstock (apparently it was cool enough for Fender to rip off when designing the strat) - the guitar cuts heads when you lay into it.

Merle plays the D28 Bigsby you are talking about in the film From Here to Eternity. The song he plays is Re-enlistment Blues. There are some great shots of him and the guitar in the film. Check it out.

Sounds just like a good Martin D28! Sorry Quinton, not even close to Travis Picking. I always liked Merle Travis, he was unique guitar player when he came out. BUT, IMHO, this is just too GIMMICKY!!! Just a B.S. sales gimmick to appeal to a small group of Travis devotees to sell them yet another "DIFFERENT" Martin D28. But if it works for you...cool....it's all about, what YOU like, what appeals to you...

That was about a worthless review of the guitar, by 2 people who obviously know little about guitars in the first place...whats the point ?? I agree with another poster...get Thom Bresh to talk about the guitar...he has the knowledge and the skill !

I agree this is a terrible review...tells you nothing about the guitar...the player is not a travis picker...Thom Bresh is the one who should demo this guitar, not this guy, who probably has been playing a couple of years at most...I am interested in this guitar, but wouldnt buy one based on this video...terrible !!! you should be ashamed of yourselves !!
