This has been coming since day one due to the sheer arrogance of PGMOL. They have been unwilling to take on board proven tried and trusted methods used in other sports that have already ironed out these errors and created clear process. Rugby league is a great example. The very first thing the ref does in a clear concise manner is communicate the on field decision. The video referee then does his thing all the while describing what he’s doing and his thought process as to whether the on field decision is overruled and why he’s doing so or the reasons why he can’t overrule the on field decision. This all happens in a calm controlled manner instead of this rushed mayhem we see here. Also the very fact that they know they’re mic’d up in rugby league surely adds an extra degree of responsibility to make the right decision via a clear transparent thought process. The sad thing is that PGMOL already employ one of the best former rugby league referees, Phil Bentham as a VAR coach but clearly do not allow him enough influence. He’d have this nonsense sorted in no time

They should have 3 VARs so that there can be a clear majority and maybe the third can do the final VAR check. Only issue is anything extra added probably means more time and rugby for example can seem to take a while to get the verdict and that doesn’t matter as much because of its nature, but in football it’s main beauty is its rhythm 🎉and flow.

The real mistake was not informing the on-field ref immediately and allowing him to decide to stop the match. On-field refs bring back play constantly for free-kicks to be retaken and will stop play to check a possible penalty. It's absolute nonsense and incompetence that Darren England could in no way in form the on-field ref of the error until half time. Fire Darren England immediately. Let's be clear, contrary to the media and referee lies, the rules of the game does allow them to stop the game and go back. The rules clearly state once the game has been restarted they cannot go back and review an incident. This would not be a review, it would be correcting a decision due to poor communication. They perfectly knew the the rules but rigged it to disallow the goal. VAR can be heard saying offside, when it was clearly onside. Two of them in that room, why isn't one of them watching the game? The ref is also at fault for not getting clarification. Heads need to roll.

Investigate their UAE trip. Also, VAR was introduced to the game exactly for that purpose - to fix matches. There's way too much money in Football to not control it and manipulate it. It has always been happening. To think the fans are that stupid to believe it's a clean game is crazy. There's no billion dollar industry on this Earth that is not completely corrupted, so why are Football fans so stupid? The only way to solve this mistake is to give the Goal to Liverpool, re-call the game at 2-2 and each team should take a point.

Raises more questions. Liverpool fc should keep digging. The Var operator could not have been watching the game or jet lagged which also means he is not fit to the do the job on the day so integrity does come into it for me.

8 errors made for 1 decision by VAR official 1. Did not see Diaz stopped celebrating 2. Did not see the Assistant ref raised the flag for offside 3. Did not hear the linesman say “Delaying, delaying, flagging for offside” 4. Said Check Complete instead of Onside 5. Did not see the onfield ref signal subsequently Offside 6. Did not see the free kick being taken instead of a start from center 7. Did not think anything was wrong even when the operator immediately said “delay, delay the game” 8. Did not communicate the mistake to the onfield ref and make him possibly find a solution The Assistant VAR committed these 8 errors too 16 errors for 1 single decision!

VAR clearly knew the on-field decision was OFFSIDE. He said, 'Checking the offside,' and NOT 'Checking for offside' as soon as Diaz's shot went in. He was clearly checking if the on-field offside decision was correct or not. He knew it had been given offside. The problem here is the way VAR communicated with the on-field referee after he completed the check. He simply just said, 'Check complete, check complete,' which obviously implies to the onfield referee that the onfield offside decision was OK. And then, the referee had already quickly restarted the game with a FK for Spurs.

Does corruption exist? Does corruption exist in sports? Has there ever been investigations into Premier League clubs for avoiding certain FFP rules? Are there ongoing investigations? Are Barcelona under investigation for ref payments? YES is the answer to all of the above, corruption exists; which is why under the circumstances it is not unreasonable to question the integrity and motivations of every referee involved in the Liverpool vs Spurs game. Corruption is the most likely cause of these “mistakes”.

It's a massive issue of integrity - not personal integrity but the integrity of the sport. If this is a wholly exceptional event, as everyone now seems to be concluding, then it needs an exceptional response from the league. Either the score should be changed to the "real" result of 2-2 or the match should be replayed.

They are Humans... of course, and Klopp said this right after the game, Sky just stealing it. BUT they are not the on-field ref. They are say drinking a nice cup of Yorkshire in a room full of TV's... How have they missed Diaz NOT celebrating!!!?? Funny how it 'Humans' when refs but players and managers should be angelic and robotic when decisions go against them. Double standards.

They followed the rules. It's an imperfect outcome, but the errror entirely resides with not knowing the on-field decision was offside. Once play restarted they were screwed, because the rules say at that point, whatever was given can't be changed.

So the issue is that “on-side” sounded like “off-side”? Just say “green and red, goal or no-goal, goal stands or goal disallowed” or some other code words that can’t be confused! Surely it’s not that difficult.

Somehow people believe it will get better. It's been the story of VAR in England since it started. They will keep making these mistakes again and again. Start spending serious money training proper VAR technicians immidiately, and keep ref's and former players out of the VAR room completely. And for Gods sake, make this transparent NOW, with live feed audio. Best way to keep the people using VAR honest and open, and give the fans peace of mind.
