In this 'lost" speech, King follows up his powerful Beyond Vietnam speech with a intellectually moving plea to his nation to embrace peace, both domestically and internationally. Those familiar with King's Nobel Peace Prize Acceptance speech may find themselves moved by the complex interweaving narrative he drew from it and incorporate here - his brilliant use of Greek mythology and metaphor to entice proper "grown up" actions from America, will undoubtedly make this speech one of your favorite.
If you appreciate this speech, please contact the King Center in Atlanta, GA, and ask them to release all of King's speeches for public consumption. Currently there are several dozen audio and video recordings of unknown and known speeches, sermon's and lectures which have not seen the light of day yet.

This is no doubt one of ML’s best orations. What pops up readily is the broad scope of his advocacy and non-violence philosophy which wasn’t just confined to the sufferings of Negroes in the US, but oppressed peoples all over the world. ML was on a mission.

MLK was the greatest Orator of the 20th Century. His Words were like the dance of Sunbeams on moving water. His thoughts pierced the Soul like a Lance. His predictions were as wise as the Ancient Prophet and as timely as tomorrow’s Sunrise. Truly, he was Talent On Loan From God. We could not accept his Truths which were God’s Divine Truth. He was cut down in the prime of Life. We loss this brillant man. We loss what we had, but got what we wanted. What a shame.

I have a great admiration for The King's, he is very impactful in his messages to the people, we all have the right to exist. Human Rights is not a laughing matter, nor is it a matter to overlook, or impede the progression of the human being itself, not as the master race, but all races as one race, all necessary, all viable.

Thank you for this. It's good to remember and to recommit to being a better person, a more courageous person. It is not the length of the life that is important, It is the quality in which that life is lived. 100 years from today, revolutionaries, yet unborn, will be discovering Dr. King. The world's peoples may not be speaking my name in 100 years, but maybe my life will inspire my great-great grandchildren. Colin Kaepernick's great grandchildren, I believe, will be.

Like she said, we except our fate. Here this orange man is in office and you here absolutely nothing from the black leadership. The only person we hear from that is very out spoken about this racist man is a strong black woman...rep. Maxine Waters. Where is the outrage from all the black males against what O rielly said about her, she is out there defending all by her self.

This is what I call a captain, him, and others who did not bind against their convictions. Who had nothing but their word with them. Where all the odds was against them, but they kept marching on. Who did not think like the water down captains of today. Is one reason I say the principle values had changed, who do not want those with eyes to see. Where they do everything to destroy the eye sights who speak the truth, so they will not speak about what they see coming from the water down generations today. Where the power of money help ease the pain, to help the water down information to spread negative throughout the lands. I now understand why things have never changed because it was more important to seek out for political power than staying to their conviction towards the original movement. Which by taking on the greed for power, it had water down the whole concept of what the struggle were originally about. Who now work to change the thinking of the people, which will help change our history, in what it is all about today. Where the backwards generation eat it up, who move off of desires more than money, or power, makes things more hard for the young to see what is actually taking place. The water down cowards will make things look different than what it is, who are proud to confuse the truth.

It is a most unfortunate and profoundly sad event in US history to have a man of such great oratorical skills, social acumen and perspicacity meet an untimely death as he did. To Saniya Small's comment below, the true reason for Martin Luther King's death is he went beyond the acceptable limits that various corporate interests and powerful plutocrats would tolerate--put another way so long as MLK spoke about the plights of the African Americans these interests could put up with that and even throw occasional bones to the African American causes--but once King started talking about the horrors of the Vietnam War and class struggles in the United States this was beyond the pale of what these interests wanted and would put up with. The Military Corporate Establishment which includes Defense Contractors and their various suppliers did not want their interests in supplying the Vietnam War troops threatened by actions to end the war. This includes actions by various military and political personnel like General Westmoreland in his wanting to build up troop numbers in Vietnam--King's speeches against the war and outlining the horrific conditions and "undermining" the war effort was diametrically opposed to the military and corporate interest in wanting the war to continue. Most importantly, King's focusing on class struggles of the working class and middle class and his attempts to unite these classes across racial boundaries would present a powerful front to oppose the powerful wealthy businessowners and corporate leadership's attempts to undermine wages and benefits. What most Americans fail to realize is that as King stated in another speech, "When Pharoah wanted slavery to continue, all he need do is keep the slaves fighting among themselves"--this is no truer today. As long as the power interests, be they corporate interests, billionaires, or other plutocrats, keep the working and middle classes split along racial, economic or any other divisive issues, there will be no meaningful outlet for these classes to assert their rights for fair wages and benefits and means to elevate themselves educationally or socially. One only has to look at the type of campaign that Trump ran on to see the truth of the assertions I have made herein. Simply put, what billionaire ever cared about the conditions of working class people--remember these people became billionaires not by being a benevolent employer paying fair wages or salaries and benefits--but by definition exploiting the efforts of the very workers who give these leaders their economic emoluments, benefits and wealth. The appointing of a Secretary of Labor that is anti-Union and does not believe in a minimum wage is an absolute travesty and only suppports the points I have made here. Leaders like King and others will always meet "untimely deaths" when they cross the boundaries that the interests I mention here deem tolerable--the very presence of such leaders is a direct threat to the power interests' program of divide and conquer vis a vis the middle and working classes.

I must disagree wholeheartedly, he spoke for Black Beings first, he spoke then to the rest of the world for as he said many times, he was concerned with the world because Blacks would be integrating into it.

During his “Drum Major Instinct” speech, Dr. King prophesied that God would not tolerate this country’s continued abuse of power. He specifically referenced the Vietnam War in that speech. About seven years later, Dr. King’s prophecy came to pass…..we left Vietnam. All our military might meant nothing. The cost? 65,000 Americans and 2,000,000 Vietnamese. Most of those casualties were not wealthy members of either society…..they were comprised mostly of the poor.

George Smith, that MYTH that Dr. King was a Republican is refuted by KING'S OWN WORDS that he chose to affiliate with no political party. Moreover, Dr. King on more than one occasion expressed sympathy for DEMOCRATIC SOCIALISM. He offered severe critiques of capitalism, which are rarely discussed. (His critiques of Communism are advertised, but not his critiques of capitalism). King was pro-labor, and expressed support for planned parenthood-which he thought should be funded by the government. Dr. King was to the LEFT of both Jesse Jackson and Bayard Rustin (an ex-Communist who I've recently discovered worked for the CIA). Maybe you should actually READ UP on the subject-as I did before publishing a book on King. Maybe start with a collection of his writings and speeches called A TESTAMENT OF HOPE. Check out his April 4, 1967 speech against the Vietnam War. Find his address called "Honoring Du Bois" delivered in 1968 about two or three months before his assassination. Read also THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. You might be disappointed to learn that Dr. King was one of those "lowlife black left leaning scum" whose distance from you was as vast as the galaxy. One more thing: A lot of you right wingers who WRONGLY try to claim that King was a Republican in order to depict him as a conservative, overlook the fact that in the 1960s there were LIBERAL Republicans as well as right wing ones. There were LIBERAL Democrats as well as right wing Dems--but the RIGHT WING Democrats were mostly segregationist Dixiecrats. Dr. King's FATHER was a LIBERAL REPUBLICAN who switched to the Democrat Party. It was the Republican Party's shift to the Right which lost them the majority of the Black vote that they once hadd. The Black Movement of the 1960s was a PROGRESSIVE movement whose adversaries (as Dr. King noted) were right wing segregationist Democrats and right wing northern (especially mid-Western) Republicans. If you wish to read up on all this (which is better than simply repeating old, false talking points) I'd be happy to share some sources (original and secondary) that I used in my own research.

Read THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. Read Thomas Jackson's FROM CIVIL RIGHTS TO HUMAN RIGHTS: MARTIN LUTHER KING AND THE FIGHT FOR ECONOMIC JUSTICE. Read Taylor Branch's work on King. Read ANY of that material I mentioned earlier. But here's just a taste from a 1952 letter to Coretta Scott (his then fiancee): "I imagine you already know that I am much more socialistic in my economic theory than capitalistic...So today capitalism has outlived its usefulness. It has brought about a system that takes necessities from the masses to give luxuries to the classes." This is on p. 36 of THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. And there's much more. Do some homework. But if you're not willing to do some research, then I see no point in discussing matters with you at all.
