I would love to see and hear a full length review of this guitar. Thanks for showing us what your HD-28 sounds like in comparison to the OMJM. That was a high point for me. As a D28 player primarily I am always looking for another guitar that will complement it when I do recordings. I look forward to your full review...unplugged and plugged in. Thanks Aaron for your in-depth reviews and thanks to Maury am well...he is truly one of the good guys in the guitar business. And you are both "Sasquatch approved!"

@@aaronshortmusic Sounds great! I’m a semi-pro player who can only afford one right now, have been going back between an OMJM and D-18. If you can only get one, what do you thinks a better choice?

@@veewooks924 That is such a tough question as they are both totally different. The D-18 is more of a standard and affordable but it is a dreadnought and not an OM.

It sounds very good both unplugged and plugged in. The matrix sounded better than I thought it would. I have one laying around and might put it back in my d15.

I’ve been looking for that for the past 3 years lol. Baggs Anthem is a solid choice (full not SL). If not then this Fishman Matrix and an IR pedal.

I am curious to know what you think of the fact, that Martin just uses a Simple Dovetail Neck Joint and not the traditional Dovetail, which is normally found in this price range (e.g. Eric Clapton model or OM-28). Is this a disadvantage or does ist affect the sound in some way?

Hi. This guitar is great but it is more expensive than an OM-28. The fantastic looking soundhole rosette and the fact it has a pickup obviously add to the cost. I would suggest checking out the OM-28 as well. I hope to compare the two guitars on my channel this year.

So I got a question, which neck do you prefer? The OMJM I believe has the Low Profile and the HD28 has the Modified Low Oval.

That’s tough. I am a HUGE fan of the HD28 neck shape but the OMJM is also great. It feels SLIGHTLY smaller but otherwise very close. I have big hands and I am happy with either, depending on my mood.

@@aaronshortmusic The MLO feels slightly smaller or the LP? I have larger hands too. Yeah Im a big fan of the Modified V. Its a great neck for guys with bigger hands.

I have a 1997 SP000C-16TR and I have heard that it is similar or even the same as an OMJM? Is that true?

Hi Robert. I don’t think yours has an Engelmann top and the OMJM does not have a cutaway.

how was the action from factory martin usually ships guitars with high action almost unplayable is that the same case with john mayer thanx

5 years ago I felt the action on a Martin was high but since they started using the Plek machine around that time I feel they are very easy to play. Occasionally a guitar will have a slightly high saddle but this can be lowered very easily. I did lower this one using sandpaper but I have reviewed two others recently that were perfect. It’s all personal preference and is easily adjusted. Just be careful if you do it yourself.

Great video and lovely guitar. However I wish you, and all reviewers, would give details of the action. Very important to all players. I always find Martins to have highish actions and need setups. Thanks. 🇬🇧🙋‍♂️

Thanks Mike. Here’s where I currently stand on setups. First of all it’s very subjective. What I say is a low action may be high to you. I only feel like commenting on it if it’s so low that it is buzzing or if it is so high that it’s completely unplayable. Also the way a guitar travels may mean that it requires a simple truss rod adjustment. Over the last few years (since Martin started to Plek Their guitars) I’ve actually found Martin guitars to play as well or better than any other brand. Having said that, I do like my guitars to play easily and I am sure ALL brands ship their actions slightly on the high side as it is easier the remove some saddle to lower the action than it is to make a brand new saddle to raise the action. I appreciate your feedback though and I’ll bear it in mind in the future.

The shipping info page though unfortunately says "Q: Do you ship to other countries? A: NO, we do not ship outside of the USA."

Yeah Martin dealers can not ship out of their country for non-compete reasons.

@@aaronshortmusic ah that explains it. I've been looking to buy a martin. Still on the fence as to getting a 00028ec or an omjm. Normally you'd be able to try them out of course, but due to both the lockdowns here and guitar stores not having both models in stock I didn't see a big advantage in looking to get one from a store here. I'm not sure if you already have, but it's it perhaps an idea to make a video on actually buying a guitar, e.g. finding the right store (good advice, price and service), tips n tricks to try out the guitars your looking to choose from, what if you can't because of lockdowns for instance. And last but not least negotiating to get a good price/deal (what's fair etc)

@@aaronshortmusic I'm in the Netherlands, but I bet a lot of people are confronted with these challenges this side of the pond especially these days. You kind of have to order online and aren't able to try out/experience specific features like the 00028ec v neck for instance or even more preferably try out the actual instrument you're buying. This is also where consistency becomes a lot more important. It's also impossible to just buy 3 guitars in that price range and return 2 of them for instance

@@trey_dizzle4161 Try the used sites too. You might be able to find a used one for a great price. Also consider the regular OM-28. I personally think it’s a better guitar with its dovetail neck joint.

@@aaronshortmusic actually just got lucky and found a used SP000-16R. I had an omjm 13 years ago I got new for $2200 from Maury but sold it after a year. Thanks for the help. I'll check the 28 out

Got a PRS Angelus A60E and at a 3rd of the price. It is so nice and the best guitar Ive touched. Just bc Martin and Taylor are expensive doesn't mean they are worth it. PRS makes an AWESOME acoustic. The A60e has REAL WOOD, not veneered plywood, Ebony, Real Abalone, flamed Curly maple binding, real zircote back and sides, spruce, bone nut, and fishman for 1100 bucks. This in Martin cost would be $3500 and same with Taylor so I chose PRS and am VERY happy. Sounds awesome.
