You two bring so much insight to all of these videos. Thanks for trekking out in the rain to share this marvelous sculpture with the rest of us!

My favorite dynamic duo at it again - undaunted by the rain, lol. ❤ I knew this one was... special when I saw the thumbnail. Puryear had so many things to consider when creating this strange structure, but he made it work! I'm reminded of other occuli videos you've done where the goal was a perspective shift as the day progressed. I could see that happening beautifully here on a sunny day (or moonlit night).

The spot from where all the oculi were visible was nice and artsy.

Thanks for the video! I found the point about the contrast between stability and instability in the sculpture to be really interesting. I think the opposition between imbalance and stability connects nicely with the work's association with the Phrygian cap and sentiments of freedom, which seems to make a statement about the uncertain and fluctuating nature of liberty and freedom in both history and currently. Cultural and historical connections also seem to appear in many of Puryear's other works as well.

I think contradictions is to harsh of a word, I think tension is closer to what’s happening.

Which direction does the opening face? The reference to churches made me think this might be an angle also.
