This is such an underrated Scorsese film. Both Newman and Cruise were top notch.

I don't think Cruise really understood the role he was playing actually.

Richard Price (one of the greatest writers ever), Martin Scorsese (one of the best directors), Newman, and Cruise. It was seriously an all star cast, it was bound to be a classic. This may be my favorite movie hes ever done but im not sure, hes directed so many great movies.

One of the most interesting comparisons between "The Hustler" and "The Color of Money" is what the hustle arguable represents to Rossen and Scorsese. For Robert Rossen - leftist, blacklisted - the hustle is a critique of American society and capitalism, a system that spits people out the way George C. Scott in that film treated Piper Laurie. But for Scorsese - who is, essentially, a non-political filmmaker - the hustle is about acting. There's a wonderful scene in "The Color of Money" during which Vincent gets angry with Eddie and Carmen for pretending to be a couple during a hustle. They react by reminding him it's all an act, and I find it telling that Scorsese would be drawn to this element rather than make socio-political comments a la Rossen. I love both films, and I disagree with those who would consider "Money" Scorsese's most commercial film. In both content and popularity, the movies he's made with DiCaprio have been far more commercial than this one.

Great thoughts on the film. Out of all of Scorsese's films, The Color of Money seems to entice me most out of his films for that very reason you mention: it's a character study about people who play characters. Cruise is in his best over the top performance, Newman is in ONE of his best "cool" roles, and if you want a film lesson on editing and style, this is it.

One quality I like about The Color of Money is a believable character arc of Eddie from The Hustler.

This film needs to be restored by the Film Foundation and re-released on blu as the current blu by Disney is horrible quality. A disgrace to Marty and such a great film. Marty's most commercial film. Yet, it still oozes with his style and flair and is a great work. Newman's performance aside, Tom was cast pitch perfect. It's as if he were made for the role. Love how the film ends.

It's not on the level of The Hustler , but for a sequel there was no better director and it's pretty decent

@jothishprabu8 Жыл бұрын
@@Forgemno Eddie Felson, played by Paul Newman, is the central character in the movie "The Color of Money," directed by Martin Scorsese. Eddie is a former pool hustler who has retired from the game, but he gets back into it when he discovers a talented young player named Vincent Lauria, portrayed by Tom Cruise. In the film, Eddie is portrayed as a complex character. He's experienced the highs and lows of the hustling world and is now trying to navigate a more legitimate path in life. He becomes a mentor to Vincent, teaching him the art of pool hustling and life lessons along the way. Eddie's character undergoes significant development throughout the movie. He starts as a disillusioned and somewhat cynical older man, but as he guides Vincent and rediscovers his love for the game, he undergoes a transformation. Eddie's journey is one of self-discovery and redemption, as he finds a renewed sense of purpose and passion for pool. "The Color of Money" is a sequel to the 1961 film "The Hustler," where Paul Newman also played the character of Eddie Felson. In this sequel, Eddie's character reflects on his past, his regrets, and his desire to leave a positive legacy in the world of pool hustling.

i dont think of it as a sequel to the hustler but ther both great movies i think the hustler shows what its like to really be a hustler more as it shows the lonliness and lone wolf type of life it is , you get a little taste of it in color of money after amos beats eddie

That's always regrettable for fans of a particular book, but in the end the only thing that matters is if the movie is any good, regardless of how faithful it is to the source material.
