Makes sense. Hollywood that isn't a major star at 11 probably just loves it for the love. Obviously it was a actual dream to act or he wouldn't have pursued it from 1959-1972 (year of badlands) aka 13 years) let alone taking a wife and 4 kids ranging in age from 13 to 8 years of age. Not exactly like he could have told emilio that he'll get a job when Emilio gets bigger assuming he wasn't really gainfully earning income till he was in teens. Harder life than I think most people assume.

I have not watch Apocalypse Now in its entirely, just bits and pieces throughout the years, but this interview is an eye-opener. I never knew Martin Sheen dealt with so much inner suffering while filming that iconic opening scene. Going through my own inner demons, depression, anxiety and comiplating suicide, I applauded Mr. Sheen's honesty and his recovery later in life. This interview really gives people like me hope ton conquer our own trials and tribulations.

ADtheTribalChild Productions: We take inspiration wherever we can find it. I am an alcoholic and have thrown away a good portion of my life because of my addiction. I lost my partner of 28 years a few years back and am still afraid to return to the home we shared, for fear of once again succumbing to the siren's call. I am convinced that when I leave this earth, it will be as a result of the work of my own hands. I am now 61 years old and those who I have loved most in this life are on the other side, awaiting my arrival....I realize I have gone off on some strange tangent from my opening statement...May your heart be filled with gratitude. If you have someone to love you are indeed a wealthy man..And I mean that, most sincerely!

Person Up and get after it. Sheen shines in so many other ways thatbare too relevant to dealing eith the world, not just as a boss on a boat. Sure he's aggro but in a good way that you know you want to aspire to. Sure he has to deal with subcultures that may not see through their own ego or blindness (I am surrounded by the offspring of the children in the scene at the end who value protocol over product) but you need that backbone to get through life when you are in the boat (!) you are in.

I saw Apocalypse Now at the cinema when I was seventeen. During the first five minutes, I remember thinking that perhaps I had made a mistake and it was going to be like a nineteen sixties, hippie farce thing. I didn’t recognise Martin Sheen either. What's also bizarre is that when Martin talks about self loathing and pain and sorrow etc in 1976 I look at clips of him from badlands etc era ('71-'72) and he appears sane. Was he really sane and then just snapped or did he slowly unravel. I mean I know they moved according to online to Hollywood land in 1968 so I'm guessing even three years until getting badlands didn't help but you have to think that even just having six years of barely work before 1968 didn't help martins cause. Like I said, wondering if he was more distraught in 1971 or so than he gives off. Probably was trying to maintain a facade. Picturing him and Charlie at 10 and 7 if he was really bogged down by bottle addiction really makes me so much more sympathetic to their plight and makes me ache for them.

Martin has admitted that his drinking and violent outbursts had a profound effect on his children. Why the fuck do actors have to push the limits so much, just to get a chance to act. Is it the price of the cameras and the time? Just let them do a scene. Every time I hear a story about a decent scene its like someone broke all the rules to do it and was punished or regretted it. like, oops! I wish people just got together and acted in the same way that people get together and jam on guitar and drums. Anyway I vote Adam Driver for actor of the year, this year.
