I love BOTH shows with a passion. But MARTIN will always do it for me. Martin is just CRAZY HILARIOUS! The Fresh Prince is funny too, but it dealt with a lot of serious issues as well. So that's why I like that show.

Martin was funnier! Martin Lawrence is a comedian so he is the master of the craft He played different characters, his jokes still gut busting funny till this say and his suppoting and side characters were memorable and this show was on Fox so they were edgy in content.

Fresh Prince vs. Family Matters would have been a better comparison. They are both about families that go through serious issues. However, Family Matters became more of a science fiction concept halfway through its series run, and the show became more about Urkel.

You should consider doing a Good Times Vs. The Cosby Show one. That's been pretty heavy in the community for years too. Both very different yet both were groundbreaking and iconic shows that represented two different sides of black life and working class and upper middle class life very well. I think we needed both and still need both types of shows on tv now.

Personally for me, it will always be the Fresh Prince because of the fashion and to me, they had better guest star appearances. Literally everyone was on that show. You even had Queen Latifah on that show twice playing two different characters 🤣. I still like Martin though.

Martin was pure comedy for me. They did high light some stereo types cause back then it was all about being light skinned and almost everyone thought Pam was better looking and still is. Also hairstyles cause then tommy made being ball cool. Cole was an idiot but like a broken clock was right twice a day lol simple guy looking for love while they made Hillary worse than a deer in headlights.The thing about fresh prince it was funny but I never found will personally funny. It was Carlton and Jeffrey that kinda carried the punch lines for me. Then towards the end of the show they made Hillary a complete idiot. Far from the beginning of the show. And they changed aunt viv. She had character, and fashion. Both were good but I see Martin as comedy as everyone was funny and had funny parts, fresh prince to me was more drama with some comedy inserts. I’d watch both. It depends on what your taste is and your style of writing

Your critique about Martin is fair because the colorism on the show was something i wasn’t fan of either. I also want to add that I’m not a huge fan of Martin poking fun/stereotyping Black women from the hood specifically darker skin Black women. It’s basically saying all of them are loud and obnoxious and doesn’t know boundaries. I could also say I wasn’t a fan of the fat jokes on The Fresh Prince either. There are some jokes that didn’t age well and/or I wasn’t too keen on, like those are my gripes. But nonetheless, I still like both shows. Fresh Prince is better. I feel like the most serious episodes is where we see Will as an actor adlib/improv his lines (the episode where his father wasn’t present in his life is the epitome of that).

I love this channel, Slim! Now lemme talk about OG Aunt Viv vs. Mrs. Banks. OGAV could dress, sing, dance, and jump rope. She was smart, funny, strong, had depth, a career and I'm pretty sure she had hands too from the way she was ready to take her earrings off when she thought Will and Carlton was at MacArthur Park. And when Ashley's bully's parents was at the house. Plus she was from West Philly. Mrs Banks could... She was good at... I like the way she used to... Hol'up I got one! I liked the fresh prince better. Honestly I didn't really care for Martin. The only time I really liked Martin was when Bruh man was on the show, or whenever Martin plays Mr. Otis the security guard or dragonfly Jones. The fresh prince (in my opinion) got better when they switched the aunt vivs. Nothing against the original, but even some of the cast was relieved by the switch, Alphonso Riberio says that himself according to a video I've seen on KZbin. I also liked Geoffrey the butler, dude was hilarious.
