Actually I'm almost positive Anna K was 15 during this match. She was very close to 16 though. Her backhand was sensational for a 15/16year old. Too bad the rest of game didn't catch up and her body just didn't hold up.

Yeah, 11 of the 16 double titles Anna won in her career (she did't win any in single), she won them with Martina, with who she even played 15 finals (4 lost then, which makes a very good ratio of victories). But all this started 2 years after this match.

So many things about this video clip.....ana's amazing beauty, the players' non muscular body and much softer play than nowadays, the constant chatting by japanese commentators, the smile of the defeated at the end of the game and their bowing to the royal box.. From 97 to 01 Anna had 5 injuries just as it seemed she was getting her game back Stress fractures and ligaments torn. Add that to her Mother making it so bad the coach left and her Mom took over her training, it wasn't ideal. Between the two things, it's hard to say how good Anna might have become, because she showed she could, beating Stephie Graff and other top players of the time.

Not any more. With Swatek, Sabelnka, Rybakina, and Gauff all at the top it's interesting again, for me anyway. Then you have players like Jabeur and Muchova who have just as much variety as players did back in the 90s. It's different, but still exciting IMO.

Yes, the convention back then was that players would pay a curtesy (bow for men, curtsy for women) to the Royal Box if it was occupied by a member of the Royal family. They did away with that convention in 2003. The exception is if The Queen or The Prince of Wales is in attendance.

They didn't ruin tennis, they CHANGED the game, as the new era of players had arrived. Don't get me wrong, these players were great back in the days, we're very fortunate to witness how tennis evolved after a few decades not only for women's game but for men as well. Now that the big 3 and the Williams are close to retirement, it's still clueless what will be the fate of the ATP and the WTA.

Non mais sérieusement, elle a beau ne pas avoir un palmarès de dingue comparé à tant d'autres joueuses (à commencer par sa vainqueur là, la Suissesse Marta Hingis), le mot médiocre est qd même abusé pour qqn qui a remporté 16 titres en doubles dont 2 du Grand Chelem (dont 11 avec Hingis justement) et joué bcp d'autres finales, le tt avant ses 22 ans, âge auquel (comme Hingis d'ailleurs) elle prît sa retraite. Mais si elle intéressait, c'est effectivement + parce qu'elle est magnifique. Comment a-t-elle pu échouer avec Enrique de mes 2 Iglesias?
