Dokic never lived up to her full potential. She's the one I've been keeping an eye on in the late '90s..What a talent.

Jelena was such a freindly person it was so tragic she never won a slam despite reaching 4th in the world but Hingis had it easy in comparison with her mum cos Dokic's dad helped ruin her career in the end. And now she struggles with weight issues. Very prominent tennis commentator on Aussie TV though for every slam event.

Tough 1st round match, but Hingis was still broken by her loss to Graf in the FO final a month earlier, where the crowd turned against her because of her on-court behavior.

Everyone talked about Hingis having an argument with her mum the night before or something, but it was just media narrative on something that was much more simple. Dokic's flat, powerful groundstrokes, and youthful fearlessness were too much for Hingis. Grass really wasn't the best surface for Hingis because despite her all-court skills, her game was too soft.

And what nobody realised at the time was that Jelenas dad was being a bastard to her so Hingis had no problems in comparison but Jelena didn't show it here.

Jelena dokic was a floored genius of her era the only thing that worked against her was her father,I would've loved to see her flourish in a different environment how good could she have been,well done Jelena love you now like I loved you then❤❤❤

Psychological trauma can make or break even the most talented players, that RG loss & the manner in which it happened was mentally scarring for Hingis. Monica Seles is another case, her decline was more mentally than the stabbing itself.

The difference being that Hingis brought this upon herself with her petulant and arrogant behavior. Monica was victim of crime.

What a disappointment for Hingis… Coming off a French Open Finals defeat that somewhat controversial in regards to Hingis’s own emotional breakdown and losing 1st round and then later on that summer, losing to Serena Williams in the Finals of the US Open…
