Martin this actually made a huge lightbulb go off for me! So I made a decision this winter that I want to swing my clubs daily but I don’t have anywhere inside that is tall enough to do full swings. So since November I’ve been swinging in my spare bedroom. It’s got 8’ ceilings so I can’t follow through completely with my swings so I hold them off afterwards. But at the same time I’ve been trying to implement some speed training that you and Bryson teach. I’ve found that this has made it so I have to create fast speed and then stop it very quickly or I put a hole in my ceiling. All in all when I go play the sims I find I have almost a stumpy swing but I’ve added about 20-25 yards and 10 mph to all my clubs while becoming more consistent with my striking. It’s really wild and I didn’t understand how I could possibly get that kind of improvement while essentially shortening my swing. This gives me one of the answers. Thank you!

Hey man, been following for some time. Nice videos & It's great to see how you push this sport. I watched some of the simulator and radar comparisons, and noticed (for example) Trackman gives approximately 5 mph less club speed vs the Quad, due to the center effect of club head. But as I understand it, ball speed ends up pretty similar - as Trackman will provide higher smash factor? Then to the question, if you are able to answer :) I also noticed with same ball speed, the Foresight GCQUAD still gives more distance (5-20) yards. Is this something you have noticed? And why is that so, due to difference in spin rate?
@MartinBorgmeierLD2 жыл бұрын
This is my personal opinion: Ball flight algorithms are a little bit different between the systems. Not sure which is right or wrong. If anything, my guess would be that spin decay is not factored in correctly. Also different balls can produce different ballistics. Especially high launch + low spin on Foresight seems to be a bit too far. Still: I always prefer a measured spin rate compared to a calculated one because I practice with the raw numbers and not the calculated distance. Hope this helps!

@@MartinBorgmeierLD Thanks a lot Martin! It definitely helps. I'm new to this since about half a year so It's bit of a jungle, hehe. Been playing only indoor in trackman 4. That's the main one here. Soon I will try it outdoors too (not many locations have it yet). Hopefully I will even be able to try the Foresight's sim soon (at another location in Sweden that I know uses it). Yes, that's what I've noticed I try to skip any calculated numbers. When I started with RCT balls it works better at the Trackman simulators I'm playing at. Thanks again and have a good weekend

Awesome content Martin! I was wondering whether you could do a video on the proper pressure shift (countermovement) that precedes taking the club back, and then the shift that precedes the downswing. It's clear that every LD has a very active lower body before they take the club back, whereas most amateur players are super static. Dr. Kwon, a biomechanist rom Texas Women's University has a number of videos on this. I read somewhere that Bryson actually came to see him at some point. I know you two are friends so would be awesome to hear what your thoughts are on this. Greetings from Poland!

I'm fairly certain it is the shape/aerodynamics of the driver why you swing slower INTO the wind, but don't receive any additional speed when swinging with it. There is quite a bit of SURFACE AREA on the FACE of the club, which, when swinging INTO the wind will create a (small amount of) DRAG. Yet, the back end of the club is akin to the nose of an airplane or a (American) football. EDIT: I do find it VERY interesting you swing faster outside. The more I think about it, there might be something to that, scientifically.

The arms have to start to decelerate at P5. Ie the arms slow down and the clubhead speeds up, as it desperately tries to escape from the rotating mass, triggered by the deceleration of the arms. This deceleration of the arms will cause the shaft to flex at P4, which acts as a "leaf spring" and this is the secret missing power accumulator!!
@pmdwyer274 Жыл бұрын

@systemoptimizer35422 жыл бұрын
So you're a long drive competitor, and you only learned about deceleration recently? 😏You say you decelerate to make your body go faster, but that's not quite correct. What decelerating your body does is allow the forces from your body to transfer into the shaft, the shaft then kicks to transfer speed to the clubhead, and the clubhead passes most of that speed to the ball. If you're just yanking your body around, and not letting the shaft do any work then the type of shaft you use matters very little. If you want people to believe you swing fast then why don't you use some type of swing speed monitor to show it? For anyone who doesn't know who you are you just appear to be some guy spinning out of his shoes blabbering that he hits it far, but may not be hitting it 150 yards for all anyone can tell from the basic video. Driving ranges around the world are filled with those kind of guys...🤪
@MartinBorgmeierLD2 жыл бұрын
Unloading the shaft correctly and improving your deceleration pattern is two different things
@systemoptimizer35422 жыл бұрын
@@MartinBorgmeierLD You can't unload the shaft if you don't load it in the first place. You aren't loading the shaft if you aren't decelerating the arms/hands. If your body isn't decelerating and breaking at some point then you're likely yanking the arms and club around. If your yanking your body around, and its dragging the arms and hands along they probably aren't decelerating. 😜

I think it's not just deceleration, it's recoil. Like cracking a whip, you throw it out and then jerk it back. I am wondering, does this work to go faster because you slow upper body movement where the energy of the club head has to dissipate thru rapid wrist un-hinge, being the only path available? … or is this more a mental exercise, I.e. where your body can more easily be pushed within defined range of motion limits? Any tip to feel or actually generate power with my legs/hips? Thks!

You are an entertaining guy with a great attitude. The deceleration angle is an interesting one. I sort of relate that to the feeling I have sometimes gotten when I seem to carry a heavy hit into the ball and all of the energy transfer possible seems to happen a couple of feet on either side of the ball. Sometimes the follow through, if I make a full one, just seems like enjoying the ride while I relish that blissful feeling of crushing the ball. There is no need in those cases to swing well beyond the ball in order to transfer maximum energy to it, the lighning has already struck well before the long follow through. I also think that this has something to do with the ideal takeaway. If the marriage of wrist, hand, and arm movement sychronizes perfectly with the motion of the shaft, one is ideally suited to transfer energy to the ball on the downswing. Every slight change in the rotation of the body and line and angle of the takeway necessitates slight adjustments in the motion of the hands, wrists, and arms for absolute optimization of energy transfer. I think that there is gold to be mined in this area and especially at speed where slight power leaks are more likely to occur. I think that the most perfect motion of hands, arms and wrists that I have ever seen is from Cameron Champ who makes his power look absolutely silky because the sychronization with his body motion is phenomenal.

Thanks for the awesome video. Do you feel that most of your speed and acceleration comes before arms are parallel, and your arms and hands are freewheeling through the ball as your body decelerates?

I feel mostly my lates and core bracing after impact

Very good! I´ll be sure to work on this next time. I have a tendency to just let it go after impact and hit myself in my right thigh with irons sometimes. Shaft bouncing across my back with driver - luckily haven´t broken any that way. I have worked on deceleration a few times, but maybe I should work some more on it.

yes, it helps to prevent shaft breakage as well 🤠

You can only accelerate as fast as you can decelerate. The same concept we preach in the baseball world. Great video, Martin!

Hey Martin. I feel like i have a cupping motion at impact. Maybe i swing too much with the right hand… have you face that issue ? How do you feel your release is like ? When i train with a speed stick i feel like im cupping it even more …. Any ideas ? Thanks man

you see some Long Drivers cupping their wrists to gain more backswing length. It very much depends on how you back it up with the rest of your body. Best advice here is to see a good coach and figure it out

In the slow motion video of your swing it looked like the head was whipping before it got to the ball , is that good for speed or should it be timed so the ship motion happens at the ball instead of a few feet behind?
@MartinBorgmeierLD2 жыл бұрын
it very much depends on the shaft and your unloading pattern
