Thank you so much for explaining it so simply. I'm having problems keeping up with my engine repair class. Your explanations are right to the point and easy to follow. I also love the high quality video shots.

Well done and to the point. I have a motorcycle repair shop and I just came up with a cam that I can't find even the manufacture. This helped considerably. Now I can try to get the valve stem protrusion, I hope. Thanks

Dude! Thank u. One of the best posts I've come a cross in quite some time.That was concise & easy to under stand. Was able to check my cam & help me decide what my next cam will be. I liked & subbed.

Very well explained, but how will we measure valve lift if the cylinder head is valve bucket type?
@trillrifaxegrindor44114 жыл бұрын
thanks,i just found the roller cam i pulled out of a recently acquired tpi sbc is essentially the same as the roller cam i was going to install because of this wonderful "math".one is a billet core and the other is cast,two different manufacturers but virtually identical lift.now i need to figure out lsa,duration etc to pick the better cam.

This is great information, but how i can know the ratio?
@martinbuilt10 ай бұрын
That is something you're just gonna have to look up. The ratio of your rock arms should be a standard thing for your engine. Thank you for watching.

I know it's out of subject.but what do you think about cutting the transmission management wire.

I have done that. There is a trimmer shift in the upper RPM range.

What about finding out the max lift you can get before valves hit piston
@martinbuilt2 жыл бұрын
You could use clay on top of the pistons with the cylinder head bolted into place and then rotate the engine. Remove cylinder head and measure the depth of the clay.

What was the difference between the 08 cams vs 99-04 HO Cams? Im assuming you upgraded from the HO Cams to the 08.
@martinbuilt5 жыл бұрын
The 08 cams have .030 more lift intake and .043 more lift exhaust then the HO cams. I don't know the numbers for the duration. I believe the lobe separation is 112* HO and 114* on the 08. I have not yet got around to installing them.
@DANEMSPRINGER5 жыл бұрын
@@martinbuilt ah, thanks for the reply martin. Look forward to watching a video of the installation of the 08 cams! Don't forget to take us on a ride along when you get done sir!
@martinbuilt5 жыл бұрын
@@DANEMSPRINGER Yes I'll do a ride along. I'll also do a 0 to 60 mph test between the 2. I don't know if I'm going to do any Dino tests, we'll see.

Hai martin, how this thing relate with ignition timing? Im actually try to compare it with my motorcycle cam.
@martinbuilt5 жыл бұрын
Yeah this video isn't going to help you much as far as figuring out ignition timing. It's mostly just how to figure out how much lift your cam has. But thanks for watching in commenting.

Where do I find the Rocker Arm Ratio for a 283 GM motor?
@martinbuilt2 жыл бұрын
The OEM rocker arm ratio for a 283 Chevrolet should be 1.5:1

hi martin i alraedy know my intake lift is 564 & exh lift 534 thats whats on my cam card my r/ratio is 1.6 i hav measured both int & exh lobes & got 334 intake & 354 exh so if i multiply by the rocker ratio of 1.6 i get 534 intake & 564 exh the exact oppisite to the cam card im no engine builder but does this mean the grind on my cam is wrong?
@martinbuilt5 жыл бұрын
I would be surprised if the cam card is wrong. Are you sure when measuring a lobe that it is what you think it is, you're not getting the intake and exhaust mixed up? If you're positive then the cam would obviously be ground incorrectly.
@micthegreasemonkey29185 жыл бұрын
the card is correct comp cams hav a similiar cam with the same numbers now for the lobes my cam i think its intake ,exh exh intake & so on not sure about other cams ive got a v6 gm 3800 2000 model.
