I was wondering if there was a part of speech getting lost in translation,. In his defense, there are dialects of English (namely in England itself) where "The door were open" would be considered correct. American English isn't really one of them though.

No, it wasn't. I worked on ER from 2000 through 2008. We shot entirely on the Warner Lot with some location shoots in Chicago. I used to have old call sheets and scripts, wish I had saved them. But we never shot off the lot, aside from a few downtown LA exteriors.
