This band grew up when I grew up. They seem to mimic my life. Their songs always seemed to reflect what I was thinking and doing. From high school & college in the 80s to being a young adult in the 2000s...U2 was and is the soundtrack of my life.

They are and if I may say so. They are the only band to have kept the original line up and survived through every era. They are technically the best. Awards, popularity, music that actually has meaning that audiences can connect to. They are the best arena band. Boy can they fill up that crowd. Rock n Roll. 🤘🏻

Americans (I’m one of us) tend to forget that other nations and culture’s opinions of a group or album are just as important as theirs. Pop may not have been a big hit in the states, but in other ‘arenas’ it was loved. Doesn’t make it less important.

You have to respect the recklessness and creativity they had in that POP era. It’s an interesting album to be sure and in many ways feels timeless. A lot of those songs really bloomed into something special when played live.

I absolutley still love this band. Back in the 80's when I was in high school they were just the biggest thing that came out of Ireland. And at that time, there were a lot of good bands coming from overseas. It was like the second british invasion. They survived that going forward, and are still one of the best bands ever.

I was a freshman at Minnesota State (formerly Mankato St.) and we actually had cable TV in our dorms. I was only exposed to basic antenna TV in the small town where I grew up about 30 miles away. MTV was the sh!t with Martha Quinn and the U2 (War album) just blew me away. To me it was the turning point of the ‘80’s. I grew up on Aerosmith, Zeppelin, Styx, Journey, Boston…all of those ‘70’s band’s . I remained a fan of U2 ever since. Their sound and Bono’s voice is unique, like nothing else. One of my all time favorites!

What's amazing is that into the 2000s they were still the biggest rock band on Earth. How to Dismantle and Atomic Bomb was huge and broke tons of records in 2004 and was like top of billboard hot 100 for a month or so. Vertigo was everywhere. That's amazing. Considering they were in their mid 40s and well into their 3rd decade lol. I'd say it's only recently, like last 4 or 5 years really, that U2 has kinda faded away from being the chart choppers they were since Joshua Tree in 87'. But you never know... If there's any band in rock history, that has proven they can adapt and change and make huge comebacks, it's U2. They did it after October, they did it after Pop. So.... I think they could do it again. Tho they are getting old. I mean, father time is unbeaten. But... Maybe. Maybe..... The U2 magik can strike one last time.
@nikosvault3 жыл бұрын
It's not that amazing to be the "biggest band in the world" in the 00's. Rock was dying. Coldplay took over the title around 2005 and then killed off the concept with Mylo Xyloto. Now rock is just a heritage genre.
@Views-ui2xh3 жыл бұрын
Metallica was outselling them at that time, and Coldplay and Linkin Park were huge right after then also.

Their last album was a success though. It was a number one album making them the only band to achieve this is 4 consecutive decades. They still sell out stadiums and have new fans as a result. They aren't irrelevant yet.

I could see Pop at #3. I have Achtung Baby at #1 (i've probably listened to it more than any album from any artist) and Joshua Tree at #2. Maybe Zooropa at #4 followed by War for me or vice versa? Below that the clearest ranking for me is putting Songs of Innocence at the bottom. I thought that one was pretty weak. IMO, none of the 4 albums post ATYCLB would rank in the upper half of their releases.

Blessings from Ireland dhearthair, you need to drop the 'half' part of Irish, you are Irish in my book, my uncle was a great man called John Hume, through him I've met them all but me and Edge clicked, I was a kid in 1997, still keep in contact, he and Morry are our wee ones Godparents, Edge paid for our house, we were renting I was just made redundant and never told Edge, landlord turns up and says we got 2 months notice he got an offer he couldn't turn down, a sleepless night of worry and our door goes in the morning the next day, lawyers were at my door, had to sign the deeds, I'd have rented a bigger house if I knew that was coming 😂 btw mate the way people lie online i don't blame you if you don't believe this, I get nothing for lying, such a kind, funny, witty talented bloke, he's a legit genius, I not long turned 40, Edge bought me a bespoke Gibson explorer and a vintage Vox amp, couldn't believe it, its on the wall because I am awful playing guitar, I've heard three of the songs they are working on, I really hope they make the cut, they are heavy experimental incredible tune, also Edge's kids are some of the nicest people I've ever met, anyway I don't know why I wrote all that, writing a bloody book here, my very best to you and your family my friend, you are one of us 🇮🇪 Erin go bragh!!!
