What turned me into an audiophile was an experience when I was about 14 years old at an audio show in Bombay, India where I first heard a pair of Martin Logan esl's, I don't remember the model number but I remember they were retailing for $14,000 and were connected to nothing but Jeff Rowland gear, everything from the CD player, the pre and power amps were all Jeff Rowland, they probably cost more than the speakers. I remember hearing much more expensive setups at the show but the setup that changed my life was the Martin Logan's because they weren't setup in the large ball rooms of the hotel with the $100,000+ setups, but in a mediocre hotel suite and yet they brought me closer to a live experience than any other thing I heard at the show.. The presenter played a jazzy track with female vocals for me and I remember it feeling as if the singer was standing dead center of the room and the band was around her.. The holographic imaging from those speakers blew my mind cause my ears were telling me that someone is standing and singing in the room, but my eyes were telling me that it's only an illusion. Only then did I realize that that is what I really wanted in a setup, an experience that will give me a private live concert in my living room just like you mention in your review. Now I'm 30+ years of age and own a lot of gear but I hope to someday be able to afford a setup like that so that I can have that experience all over again..

Wonderfully composed review on an awesome speaker from a great company

Excellent review. There is something magical about the way these nearly 6 foot tall pair of speakers can just "disappear" in a room when properly setup. All that's left is a holographic 3D sound stage that stretches from wall to wall. The ESL 11a might be the best speaker under $15K on the planet as long as you can give them quality power.

A very thorough review, which I really enjoyed. I've always been intrigued by Electrostatics, but have never owned a pair. Perhaps it's time to change that!

There is so much good information in this review it should be in a magazine. Amazing job. I can’t wait to hear these beasts.

I am SO glad I discovered this channel TODAY! What lured me was the review of the Klipsch 600m which I just purchased from my local brick and mortar audio shop for theater use. HOWEVER, once a saw all the videos listed I went right to the Martin Logan presentation here! I am the happy owner of a pair of ESL Classics powered by all Parasound pre/power. Don't be fooled by the smaller size of these E'stats. My room is 17x24x8,' and with the 400 pch. A21 amp, it COMPLETELY fills this room without effort. Six months ownership and I have never owned anything that sounds so sweet. Thanks for letting all the viewers know about these gems! (O:

Once you go stat, you can't go back! I love my MartinLogans! I have Prodigy, Aeon i, Descent, Summit and Motion 4 for my home theater, stereo system and computer workstation respectively.

You are right about stats. I've tried many box speakers, even planars like the Magnepans thinking they might perform the same disappearing act. They don't. I now use Quad ESLs and I'm finally satisfied.

I have heard from friends that Martin Logans sound clean but THIN with no depth to them like regular speakers. Is that true or have they fixed that?

Is it wort upgrading to 15a from 13a. Money doesn't matter, however I have a small living room, so that's only problem. My living room have a weak point below 30hz. meaning low frequency below 30hz is pretty much non existing . I use 2 1212 REL sub-woofer to compensate for the lack of low bass frequence below 30hz. IMO, Martin Logan is the best speaker I've hear so far due to It's clarity and natural sound not matter how much the speaker cost. Magnepan 20.7 is one of the exception. They really sound great, how ever my wife hate them. That why ML is so great.They look so much smaller with the transparent look

Scott, I get that the ML Neolith is a very expensive speaker but it would appear that anyone in Australia who wants a pair has to import them. Is the Neolith considered obsolete in the US ?
@AudioAdvice Жыл бұрын
The Neolith is not obsolete in the US! Here is an Australian rep that you could try ordering from: www.audioactive.com.au/site/pages/martin_logan.php Hope that helps!

Anyone has idea what’s the crossover of the subwoofer working till then passing on to the panels

It varies, you can look on the Martin Logan site and see the specs. The 15a is 300 Hz for example. Thanks for watching

What you say is true. As a matter of fact Quad of Huntingdon, England solved the inherent problems of directionality and thin bass progressively and curves in two planes were present in the 63 series. Through the 2000s they worked on bass without falling into the trap of stick-on sub-woofers. The reason Quad eschewed subs was simply because the immediacy of membrane sonics is blunted by cone behaviour no matter how quick and smart crossovers are.
