Update: WE'RE NOW ON SPOTIFY, APPLE MUSIC & MORE: ffm.to/ultimatepinkfloydmedley 🎂 Support us & get TABs on: www.patreon.com/MartinMillerGuitar ✨My tone presets: martinmiller.lnk.to/gumroad To clarify one thing: We are NOT a Pink Floyd tribute band. We don't try or want to sound like the original recordings. With this session it was our aim to put our own artistic vision into the music, that we love so passionately. I've been a HUGE Gilmour fan since my earliest childhood but I'm also an artist and not just a cover musician. To me there is no meaning in replicating something that has already been done to perfection. I hope you listen to our interpretation with open ears and an open mind. Love and long live Floyd, Martin.

it seems you are looking down on the musicians that do do covers, at the very least i will give one reason, not everyone is as gifted as you to be original or do a take on a classic song, for a whole lot of people, covers is all they have, and certainly there is an art on trying to replicate a song, hell, for a lot of people the the most accesible way to make a living or to earn some money on the side is to do covers, to do what you do and other great musicians is out of the question. just an opinion, please do not take it the wrong way, you are a fantastic musician, at the fore front of my generation i would even say, keep up the good work.
@MartinMillerGuitar7 жыл бұрын
Absolutely no disrepsect intended towards cover musicians, I just meant to say that it's not my profession and putting 1:1 covers on KZbin is not something *I* would consider doing. It's totally fair if that's how other people express themselves or make a living. I have the utmost respect for anything making a living in music in any form - takes a lot of balls!
@amused2death7757 жыл бұрын
I've greatly enjoyed keybordist and bassist play, guitar wasn't a weedly-weedly shred, thanks goodness, though Syd's theme could benefit from a little bit of a modulation for mystique, but the drummer was hellishly annoying. Even if we ignore stylistic differences, he kept this mix terribly busy and did not let it breathe, not the music, not the band members, it was all me me me. Having great chops is not ALL what makes a musician great. It's also understanding of the music played and respect to your band members and the team work.
@amused2death7757 жыл бұрын
I'm not giving this video a dislike only because of the keyboards and the bass. Martin, whatever you do, keep these two in your band. But your drummer should definitely know better when he plays other people's music. And not just other people. It's Pink Floyd for fuck's sake. Nick Mason was not the most techy skinman out there, but he's respected the music and the band.

I discovered floyd when I was 17 in the late 80's. They hugely moved me while making me sit still for long periods...... if you understand.... From then till now they have been a part of my daily musical life in one form or another. I have always viewed 'covers' of them with a somewhat dubious eye and universal dissapointment. Tonight I poured myself a whisky and settled down to one of my carefully cultivated playlists, and was led to this medely from a Porcupine tree playlist suggestion. I have sat mesmerised till now, 20mins in, completely forgetting my whisky. That has not happened for a long........ time. You dont know me, so you dont know how rarely this static enthrallment happens for me, so take this as a compliment. The one cover of pinkfloyd I reluctantly but firmly will say is equal to the original. Well done.....Kudos.

I'm 57, have 3 degrees in music (BA, MA, PhD), am a voice major, drummer, saxophonist, and have taught Rock History at the university level for years. The only reason I'm telling you this is that I have a deep appreciation and respect for what you are doing here. I greatly admire the fact that you have the courage to make your own version of this fantastic music. I've listened to these recordings hundreds of times and I really appreciate how you are paying homage to a great band/musicians that came before you yet recreating the music in your own way while at the same time paying respect to your rock elders. Keep this up. Don't ever stop. I love the energy levels in every part of this and all of the unique elements everyone brought to the performance. I really like the edgier interpretation and am really digging the rhythm section. It was all FANTASTIC! Thank you!!

Very interesting insight. With all respect, I think it doesn't take a degree to appreciate the totality of their performance. It does take an expert to break it down and filter out each of their strengths. I'm no expert, but in my opinion these musicians are a powerhouse. Is it wrong to praise the drummer, when he has this much talent to beat his way through? :-) I too feel the rhythm section is exceptional. I do hear the bassist making the melody, and stepping beyond what is needed, except the drummer is out of this world good :-).

As a musician and casual Pink Floyd fan, I found your interpretation both respectful and entertaining. And while I noted the not-so-subtle differences between yours and the original, I found them neither annoying nor distasteful. I'm no purist, so the pyrotechnical aspects of your lead guitar work were impressive. And kudos to the keyboardist, both for his faithfulness to the original, which allowed you to paint a slightly different picture on the PF canvas, but to his amazing head of hair! I tend to agree with the other comments here about the drummer, but his busy sticks did not deter me from thoroughly enjoying your efforts. In fact, I found myself enjoying the medley almost as much as some of Pink Floyd's live performances I've seen on KZbin. Having never seen PF in concert, I appreciate what you did here, and hope you've moved on to more and even better interpretations of the great classic/prog rock artists. Thanks!

The trick with covering these classics, and the guitar solos in particular, is to mess around with them very little, while still putting your own soul into them. Success, I would say! Fab.

I actually thought he lacked feel until three band joined in. I'm glad everyone else liked it. It's a great rendition. I'm not a fan of his fake vibrato singing either.

I can’t get enough of the lead guitar solos. What divine interpretation!! They’re fluid, and play to the songs themselves.

Just saw this for the first time. Masterful. I won't use the word "cover" . People don't say "The Atlanta Symphony covered such and such very well". You guys performed these songs as good as they can be done.
@fpcoleman575 жыл бұрын
WOW! Late in the day for my comment but this is amazing! If I win the lottery I will pay for a series of concerts by you guys. I know that the purists will always criticize but to keep this music alive it must be performed! You guys are already one generation removed from the original people. When they, inevitably, die it is people like you who will continue to keep this music alive. What would have happened if no-one had performed the music of Bach, Beethoven, Haydn, Mozart, etc after they had died? We don't have to depend only on recorded media. To be experienced in its entirety this has to be performed live. Thank you. Vielen Dank. Das freut mich sehr zu hoeren.

Gotta put my two cents in and say I friggin love the cover. Drummer didn't over do it (in fact I love that he was visibly enjoying himself). The singer/guitarist took it to a whole other level and of course the rest of the band made it what it was by being as talented as they are. Also a huge shout out to the camera crew for capturing it in an absolutely stunning way. A true pleasure to watch.

Technically good, and his kit has a lovely tone, but the playing isn't sympathetic to the music. This is more Dream Theatre than Floyd in places.😎

I love what you guys are doing tremendously! In addition to beautiful and tasteful interpretations of great music, the camera work gives a personal, immersive quality to your shows. And I love the cozy vibe of the room. At the risk of sounding cliché I'll go ahead and say that you're making the world a better place. At least my world :).

This is the third of you and your band's medley's I've watched today, and I'm amazed at the time, effort and love that you have for the music to learn it and play it, adding your own nuances where warranted. The first I saw was the Genesis medley this morning, and I think I responded that I could listen you and your band interpret Genesis all night... not because it's an exact replica but because it's well done and the musicianship is great.

Wow, watching these medleys is like hearing the Concertgebouw Orchestra performing a variety of classics in their own interpretation. Sure, one can always argue whether Beethoven 5th should be played more allegro, or that Floyd needs less drums (or if Blue Oyset Cult needs more cowbell, for that matter). These discussions prove exactly that these are classical songs being performed. The classics of our time. Played live, with heart and soul by more than proficient musicians. What more could you wish for?

Yeah, at the expense of the unique brilliance of Shine On You Crazy Diamond. The initial drum entry is a critical early climax of the song, and he trampled all over it, with no sense of swing, feel, or understatement. And he kept showing off the whole song. He killed the suspense and subtlety of a brilliantly melancholy, mysterious song.

Martin Great performance by the whole band. Some complain about the drummer's many notes, this guys haven't listened to much music. Excellent imorovization of the solo at the end. That it is not always the same. Both God and the devil get tired of hearing the same thing almost every day, that's why he did Stairvey and Hotel Californija boring. You play fresh and professionally trained. How I want to jump into such a home band and jam like never before. I play the guitar 51 years and I'm 61. I'm not a solo guitarist as you might expect, but the rhythm and riffs are flawless. Play for many more years, just like now, on this video 👍💯🎸💖👌

This is THE best PF cover !! Martin Miller has it nailed. I saw Pink Floyd live in 1970 - best light show I have ever seen in my life - even now! Speakers all round the hall - Richard Wright had a sort of joystick which directed the sound output to which ever speaker he pointed it towards.

He sounds so much like James LaBrie. I can truly appreciate the progression that goes into both Pink Floyd and Dream Theater and it's quite amazing how well this voice works and how he adds a lot of personality to his voice. If Dream Theater is ever out of a guitarist and lead vocalist, well they have a crazy good replacement. But, of course you can stand on your own. I just can't help but notice the great similarity. Very good
